[2882]24    - 1.25alpha3 (2006-05-11) :
25
[2883]26        - Added a lock to ensure that a single cupspykota backend
27          is processing datas for a particular print queue at any
28          given time.
29
[2882]30        - Now exports more environment variables for the subprocesses.

41
42        - Fixed several character encoding problems.
[2864]43
[2857]44        - Ensures that the denied banners counter is properly initialized
45          with relationnal databases.
46
[2856]47    - 1.24 (2006-04-08) :
48
49        - Improved documentation and packaging stuff.
50
[2808]51    - 1.24beta (2006-03-26) :
52
53        - Finalized the pknotify command.
54
55        - Updated the messages catalogs for translations.
56
[2795]57    - 1.24alpha18 (2006-03-15) :
58
59        - Now uses MIME encapsulation for email messages to avoid
60          some problems with 8 bits messages being rejected.
61
[2791]62    - 1.24alpha17 (2006-03-06) :
63
64        - Fixed a major problem in the PostgreSQL backend.
65
66        - pknotify can now check a remote user's name and password.
67
[2779]68    - 1.24alpha16 (2006-03-02) :
69
70        - Introduced the pknotify command line tool to dialog
71          with remote PyKotIcon applications.
72
[2773]73    - 1.24alpha15 (2006-03-02) :
[2760]74
[2773]75        - optimized pkbcodes, pkprinters and pkusers using edpykota as
76          the model.
[2765]77
[2762]78        - 'edpykota --list' and 'pkusers --list' are now authorized
79          to mere mortal users, but the list is restricted to informations
80          about the current user.
81
[2759]82        - Extended the functionnality of the 'onbackenderror' directive to
83          allow for configurable retries.
84
[2755]85    - 1.24alpha14 :
86
87        - Finished optimizations in edpykota and fixed some minor
88          problems with LDAP.
89
[2746]90    - 1.24alpha13 :
91
92        - Introduced the pkusers command line tool to manage users and
93          users groups. This command doesn't deal with print quota entries,
94          which continue to be managed through the edpykota command line
95          tool.
96
97        - Major rewrite and incompatible changes to command line options
98          in edpykota. This command now only deals with print quota
99          entries. Printers, users (or users groups) now have to be created
100          first using pkprinters or pkusers.
101
[2692]102    - 1.24alpha12 :
103
104        - Introduced the 'duplicatesdelay' directive to specify after
105          which duration two duplicate jobs are not considered duplicate
106          jobs anymore.
107
108        - Introduced the 'balancezero' directive to specify any value
109          as the balance limit instead of 0.0. This can allow admins to
110          give a few free credits to users, for example.
111
[2668]112    - 1.24alpha11 :
113
[2686]114        - Huge speed improvements when modifying billing codes and
115          printers.
[2677]116
[2675]117        - Both pkbcodes and pkprinters now display the percent done
118          for all actions.
119
[2668]120        - The pkinvoice invoice generator command line utility is now
121          included.
122
[2659]123    - 1.24alpha10 :
124
125        - Huge speed improvements when deleting users, printers, and
126          billing codes.
127
[2641]128    - 1.24alpha9 :
129
130        - Preliminary support for MySQL, thanks to Matt Hyclak.
131
[2631]132    - 1.24alpha8 :
133
[2635]134        - The 'preaccounter' configuration directive was introduced to control
135          which parser to use for precomputation of the job's size. When unset,
136          the internal parser is used just like it was previously. See
137          conf/pykota.conf.sample for more details.
138
[2631]139        - Now subprocesses launched through the overwrite_jobticket directive
140          can also output 'CANCEL', to represent the user's own choice to
141          cancel the print job.
142
[2622]143    - 1.24alpha7 :
144
[2627]145        - pkbanner now handles new print limiting modes correctly.
146
[2624]147        - The cupspykota backend wrapper now accepts to be interrupted
148          with a kill -INT. This causes an immediate and clean abort
149          of the current print job.
150
[2623]151        - Matt Hyclak contributed the possibility to store the printing
152          history in a MySQL database. See the contributed/ directory
153          for details.
154
[2622]155        - Added 2006 to the copyright's years.
156
[2609]157    - 1.24alpha6 :
158
[2615]159        - Fixed internal SNMP and PJL handling code for very fast
160          printers : PyKota didn't see them going from 'idle'
161          to 'printing' to 'idle' again.
162
[2614]163        - Now waitprinter.sh accepts SNMP version number and
164          community name as arguments, thanks to Brandon
165          Holbrook.
166
[2609]167        - Now command line errors and Ctrl+C repectively cause
168          PyKota commands to exit with status -2 and -3.
169
[2600]170    - 1.24alpha5 :
171
[2605]172        - All command line tools now accept -A | --arguments filename.args
173          as a way to bypass the shell's maximal command line size :
174          just put each argument on a line by itself in a file, and
175          pass the file's name as the -A | --arguments command line
176          option's argument. For now this won't be documented in
177          commands' helps.
178
[2600]179        - dumpykota can now dump the complete database in XML
180          format.
181
[2593]182    - 1.24alpha4 :
183
184        - Added support for the SQLite3 backend.
185          See pykota/initscripts/sqlite/README.sqlite
186
[2588]187    - 1.24alpha3 :
188
189        - Fix for mailandpopup.sh : smbstatus can't be run setuid,
190          so we regain priviledges before running an external
191          mailto directive.
192
[2584]193    - 1.24alpha2 :
194
195        - Introduce the "onbackenderror" directive in pykota.conf, to
196          control if the user must be charged or not whenever a real
197          CUPS backend fails. The default value is 'nocharge'.
198          Set it to 'charge' if you think your users can cause a CUPS
199          backend to fail.
200
201        - Now mark original backends related problems as such in the
202          printing history. Modified printquota.cgi and pykota.css
203          to make them be more visible.
204
[2576]205    - 1.24alpha1 :
206
[2581]207        - Fixed a problem which caused backend errors to be ignored.
208
[2576]209        - The sample LDIF file now contains the two necessary user
210          entries to have an LDAP PyKota Admin and an LDAP PyKota
211          ReadOnly user. The sample configuration files were updated
212          to contain the default passwords used in the LDIF file.
213
214        - dumpykota is now more strict when checking arguments.
215
[2562]216    - 1.23 :
217
218        - Many minor bug fixes and code cleaning.
219
220        - Improved documentation.
221
222        - Added Polish translation.
223
224        - Improved French and Swedish translations.
225
[2474]226    - 1.23beta :
227
228        - Now the mailto directive is honored in all cases where the job is
229          denied or a warning has to be issued, and the correct reason
230          can be sent back to the user.
231
232        - The PYKOTAREASON environment variable, if defined, contains the
233          textual reason why the job was denied or a warning has to be
234          issued.
235
[2465]236    - 1.23alpha31 :
237
238        - Added support for --maxjobsize, --passthrough and --nopassthrough
239          in pkprinters. These modes are now also honored when printing.
240
[2466]241        - Allows the admin to restrict the number of print queues which will
242          be treated by pkturnkey by passing queues' names as additionnal
243          arguments on pkturnkey's command line.
244
[2467]245        - pkturnkey now supersedes pkhint with the help of the -c | --doconf
246          command line option.
247
[2452]248    - 1.23alpha30 :
249
250        - Database changes : you MUST use upgrade-to-1.23.sql again if you
251          use PostgreSQL, or copy the new schema and restart your LDAP
252          server if you use LDAP.
253
254        - The -C | --comment command line switch was added to edpykota to
255          attach textual information to modifications done to a user's
256          account balance.
257
258        - The -l | --limitby command line switch to edpykota was modified
259          to allow 'noquota', 'nochange', and 'noprint'. See the edpykota
260          command's help or manual page for details.
261
262        - The -i | --ingroups command line switch to repykota allows
263          PyKota Administrators to only lists members of the specified
264          group or groups (separated with commas).
265
[2454]266        - The -I | --increase command line switch to edpykota allows
267          to increase or decrease page limits.
268
[2455]269        - Added the precomputed job's size and price to the history
270          for controlling purpose.
271
[2447]272    - 1.23alpha29 :
273
[2449]274        - Fixed a small problem with billing codes.
275
[2448]276        - Exports some environment variables earlier, to render the script
277          launched by the overwrite_jobticket directive more powerful.
278
[2447]279        - Now autopykota also creates print quota entries for the user on the
280          printers groups the current printer is a member of.
281
[2435]282    - 1.23alpha28 :
283
[2436]284        - Added users groups management to pkturnkey.
[2435]285
286        - Fixed umask in setup script.
287
[2432]288    - 1.23alpha27 :
289
290        - Replaced the --dryrun command line option by the --force
291          command line option in pkturnkey, with exactly the opposite
292          effect (for security reasons).
293
[2425]294    - 1.23alpha26 :
295
296        - Allows parametrized pjl and snmp hardware accounting methods,
297          to be able to respectively set the TCP port and the SNMP
298          community.
299
[2420]300    - 1.23alpha25 :
301
302        - Added a --dryrun command line switch to pkturnkey.
303
304        - Improved pkturnkey's general usability.
305
306        - Added a manpage for pkturnkey.
307
[2418]308    - 1.23alpha24 :
309
310        - Allows different databases to be used depending on the
311          user's rights. This allows PyKota admins to directly
312          use a master LDAP server for read+write, while letting
313          normal users using the replicas for readonly access.
314          NB : using different storage backends is also possible,
315          but you're on your own there.
316
[2413]317    - 1.23alpha23 :
318
[2414]319        - Fixed a problem with banner accounting.
320
[2413]321        - Introduction of the new 'pkturnkey' command line tool.
322
[2409]323    - 1.23alpha22 :
324
325        - The cupspykota backend was almost entirely rewritten from scratch.
326          It's now much more readable, maintainable, etc...
327
328        - LPRng support is OFFICIALLY dropped for now. LPRng users are
329          advised to download earlier releases or purchase the
330          PyKota v1.22HotFix1 Official release. LPRng support
331          MIGHT be re-added later.
332
[2399]333    - 1.23alpha21 :
334
335        - Fix for IPP requests which contain more than a single
336          job-originating-host-name attribute.
337
[2393]338    - 1.23alpha20 :
339
340        - Added the overwrite_jobticket directive. See pykota.conf.sample
341          for how to use it.
342
[2389]343    - 1.23alpha19 :
344
[2390]345        - Fixed an LDAP filtering problem when managing billing codes.
[2389]346
347        - Added the unknown_billingcode directive. See pykota.conf.sample
348          for how to use it.
349
[2365]350    - 1.23alpha18 :
351
[2383]352        - Added the dump_bfd.php contribution.
353
354        - Several fixes in the internal PJL accounter.
355
[2366]356        - Now autopykota doesn't create unneeded print quota entries anymore.
357
[2365]358        - Increased the timeout in the PJL hardware accounting code to
359          accomodate some printers (HP5000 at least).
360
[2345]361    - 1.23alpha17 :
362
363        - pkpgcounter is now distributed separately only. This
364          means that people must now download and install pkpgcounter
365          v1.56 or higher prior to being able to run PyKota.
366
367        - Removed all the autoconf/automake stuff which was outdated
368          and confusing.
369
[2344]370    - 1.23alpha16 :
371
372        - Extracted the GPL blurb from all commands' help, and use
373          a static version only once. This saves space big time, and
374          eases future translations.
375
[2342]376    - 1.23alpha15 :
377
378        - pkbcodes now works with the PostgreSQL backend.
379          NB : PLEASE RUN upgrade-to-1.23.sql AGAIN !!!
380
[2323]381    - 1.23alpha14 :
382
383        - Logs a warning when the user/group doesn't exist when running
384          edpykota.
385
[2320]386    - 1.23alpha13 :
387
388        - Minor fix for user groups because of latest database changes.
389
[2317]390    - 1.23alpha12 :
391
392        - Big database changes, use the migration scripts !
393
[2316]394    - 1.23alpha11 :
395
396        - Small fix to the PCL3/4/5 parser for some drivers.
397
[2311]398    - 1.23alpha10 :
399
400        - Fixed a bad exception name in cupspykota when parsing IPP messages.
401
402        - Improved the IPP messages module : it can now generate IPP messages
403          in addition to parsing them.
404
[2305]405    - 1.23alpha9 :
406
[2308]407        - The denyduplicates directive now accepts a command line as an
408          argument beside yes/no. The command is launched and must
409          print either ALLOW or DENY to its standard output. Then the
410          job gets allowed or denied by PyKota.
411          This will allow user interaction in the near future.
412
[2307]413        - Introduced the new 'striptitle' directive to remove ugly prefixes
414          from print job's titles whenever a new print job is submitted.
415
[2305]416        - Fixed internal SNMP accounter for printers which only have a life time
417          page counter, and not a volatile page counter.
418
[2295]419    - 1.23alpha8 :
420
421        - The data dumper can now summarize payments and history with the
422          help of the --sum command line option (or checkbox in the CGI).
423
424        - The message used when the job's filename, title and options are
425          hidden because of the privacy directive is now translated at
426          retrieval time, instead of at saving time.
427
428        - Minor fix in the LDAP backend code.
429
[2277]430    - 1.23alpha7 :
431
432        - Improvements to the internal PJL and SNMP accounter : now should
433          support more printers and waste less time.
434
[2276]435    - 1.23alpha6 :
436
437        - The data dumper's start= and end= date filtering options now
438          accept a positive or negative offset to be added to the special
439          keywords 'yesterday', 'today', 'now', 'tomorrow'.
440          e.g. : dumpykota --data history start=yesterday-5 end=today
441
[2268]442    - 1.23alpha5 :
443
444        - The data dumper's start= and end= date filtering options now accept
445          the special keywords 'yesterday', 'today', 'now' and 'tomorrow'.
446
[2266]447    - 1.23alpha4 :

[2074]582        - Allows software() (no arguments) to the software accounting
583          directive. This saves a lot of CPU since the job is not
584          parsed again : the precomputed size is used directly in this
585          case.
586
[2073]587        - epykota's --prototype option now works fine with accounts
588          limited by balance.

613        - edpykota now recognizes the -o | --overcharge command line
614          option to set an overcharging or undercharging factor
615          on each print job's cost for a particular user.
616
617        - repykota's output format has changed an is not limited to
618          80 characters wide anymore. People who used to parse
619          repykota's output in their own tools are strongly advised
620          to parse dumpykota's output instead.
621
622        - Introduction of the new 'maxdenybanners' configuration directive
623          to allow up to N (the directive's value) deny banners to be
624          printed even if the print account is forbidden to print.

635
636        - edpykota's --delete command line option doesn't consider
637          '*' to be the default argument anymore :-)
638
[2032]639    - 1.21alpha21 :
[2030]640
[2032]641        - dumpykota.cgi can now be run as a normal user as opposed to
642          a PyKota administrator. No read access to pykotadmin.conf is
643          necessary anymore. This CGI scripts now honors the REMOTE_USER
644          environment variable just like printquota.cgi does, see
645          the file cgi-bin/README for details.

658        - Introduction of the new dumpykota.cgi CGI script, which
659          allows third party tools like phpPrintAnalyzer to be
660          interfaced in real time with PyKota. To use it you
661          may have to change your web server's configuration,
662          please see pykota/cgi-bin/README
663
[2013]664    - 1.21alpha18 :
665
[2014]666        - Now dumpykota can dump the job history into CUPS' page_log
[2013]667          format (even when the printing system is LPRng). This allows
668          people to use tools like PrintAnalyzer or phpPrintAnalyzer
669          (two completely different beasts) with PyKota.

911        - LDAP pykotaAccountBalance objects were always created
912          attached to the pykotaUser objects. This is now
913          fixed and the value of balancebase in pykota.conf
914          is now correctly used.
915
[1740]916    - 1.20alpha14 :
917
[1741]918        - Belgian translations added (copy of the french ones).
919
[1740]920        - External hardware accounter now loops until
921          a result can be read correctly.
922
923        - pkhint now suggest the internal snmp handling instead
924          of the external one.
925
[1729]926    - 1.20alpha13 :
927
928        - Hardware accounter now accepts the special
929          'snmp' value, meaning ALL is done from main code
930          without launching any subprocess.
931          You need the http://pysnmp.sf.net Python module
932          for this to work (tested with v3.4.2)
933
[1731]934        - Increased delay between two loops iterations
935          to 2 seconds in waitprinter.sh to diminish
936          CPU load.
937
[1723]938    - 1.20alpha12 :
939
940        - waitprinter.sh rewritten from scratch to wait
941          for printer status stabilization.
942
[1717]943    - 1.20alpha11 :
944
945        - Generic data dumper 'dumpykota' introduced.
946          Works only with PostgreSQL backend for now.
947
[1713]948    - 1.20alpha10 :
949
950        - Added fix for incorrect job's size computation when
951          hardware accounting fails.
952
[1705]953    - 1.20alpha9 :
954
955        - Small fixes wrt subprocesses.
956

959        - Added full support of PCL3 : HP Deskjet printers are now
960          supported.
961
[1699]962    - 1.20alpha7 :
963
964        - First draft of PCL3GUI (Deskjet 640C for example) analyzer.
965          Needs more work, but no documentation is available.
966
[1692]967    - 1.20alpha6 :
968
[1697]969        - Improved mailandpopup.sh script.
970
[1696]971        - Small fixes for LPRng.
[1695]972
[1694]973        - Now exports PYKOTAPRINTERHOSTNAME for network printers'
974          hostname or IP address. Set to 'localhost' when not
975          meaningful.
976
[1693]977        - Fixed issue with how mod_auth_ldap Apache modules
978          fills the REMOTE_USER environment variable.
979
[1692]980        - Fixed a bug in LDAP user deletion code.
981
[1687]982    - 1.20alpha5 :
983
984        - Introduces the new configuration directive 'onaccountererror'
985          to specify what must be done whenever the software or
986          hardware accounter fails. Allowed values are 'continue' and
987          'stop' (default).
988
989        - Minor fix in software accounter for a recently introduced
990          problem.
991
[1686]992    - 1.20alpha4 :
993
994        - Added support for more ghostscript devices in ESC/P2
995          analyzer : stcolor, st800, escp, escpc are now supported.
996
[1680]997    - 1.20alpha3 :
998
[1683]999        - Small improvement in PostScript parser to avoid being
1000          fooled by a change in number of copies :
1001          The user can't ask for 200 copies of page 1 and 1 copy
1002          of page 2 to fool PyKota anymore :
1003          this would have been accounted for as 1 copy only, but
1004          now the maximum value seen is used.
1005
[1681]1006        - Relax checks for PCL5 header to accomodate some strange
1007          printer drivers.
1008
[1680]1009        - Now hardware accounting method works like software
1010          accounting method wrt the subprocess' output.
1011
[1681]1012        - Hardware and Software accounting stop the print queue
1013          when the accounting subprocess didn't work. This will
1014          be configurable in the near future.
1015
[1676]1016    - 1.20alpha2 :
1017
[1678]1018        - Now software accounting method reads accounter's
1019          answer until a line with a single integer is
1020          obtained or until all of its output has been read.
1021          This should fix the problem some people have
1022          when strange locale related messages are sent
1023          when running subprocesses (Solaris only ?).
1024
[1676]1025        - First version of ESC/P2 analyzer. Seems to work
1026          ok at least with 'epson', 'epsonc', 'eps9mid'
1027          and 'esp9high' ghostscript devices. Needs more
1028          work to correctly analyze other devices.
1029
[1665]1030    - 1.20alpha1 :
1031
[1675]1032        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCLXL parser.
1033
[1674]1034        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCL5 parser,
1035          when number of copies was set outside of and before first
1036          page.
1037
[1673]1038        - Added workaround for number of copies directly set in
1039          PostScript code.
1040
[1671]1041        - Added german translation.
1042
[1665]1043        - Fixed problem on first print for user group quota when
1044          "enforcement: strict" is used.
1045
1046        - Fixed interpolation problem in french translation.
1047
[1664]1048    - 1.19 :
1049
1050        - Updated existing translations.
1051
1052        - Added final Thai and Greek translations.
1053
1054        - Minor last minute bug fixes.
1055
[1629]1056    - 1.19beta :
1057
1058        - LPRng support for both software and hardware accounting seems
1059          to be OK.
1060
1061        - Translation files fixed because of fuzzy matching problem.
1062
[1639]1063        - Fixed path to Swedish translation: 'sv' instead of 'se'.
[1633]1064
[1639]1065        - Added first draft of Thai translation.
1066
1067        - Fixed some minor bugs with Pychecker.
1068
[1622]1069    - 1.19alpha35 :
1070
1071        - Generic PDL analyzer now supports Binary PostScript documents
1072          in addition to DSC compliant ones.
1073
[1611]1074    - 1.19alpha34 :
1075
1076        - LPRng support : software accounting seems to work fine,
1077          but hardware accounting doesn't work yet.
1078
[1605]1079    - 1.19alpha33 :
1080
1081        - pykosd now accepts command line arguments. Enjoy !
1082          NB : due to a bug in xosd, you need xosd version 2.2.8
1083          or higher if you don't use the default C locale.
1084
[1600]1085    - 1.19alpha32 :
1086
[1604]1087        - Early (not working) version of the LPRng support rewrite.
[1600]1088
[1604]1089        - Saner default configuration file.
1090
[1599]1091    - 1.19alpha31 :
1092
1093        - Fixed a double Python2.1 incompatibility with newer versions,
1094          which prevented the PCL5 and the PCLXL parsers to work with
1095          this older version of Python.
1096
[1592]1097    - 1.19alpha30 :
1098
[1595]1099        - Introduction of preliminary version of the pykosd command
1100
[1593]1101        - Usernames, Groupnames and Printernames can now contain
1102          ANY character, expected '/' and '@'.
1103
[1592]1104        - Integrated most of the Debian work from Sergio
1105          Gonzz Gonzz
1106
[1584]1107    - 1.19alpha29 :
1108
[1591]1109        - PCLXL parser should now correctly handle number of
1110          copies set for each page.
1111
[1588]1112        - Added testsuite for generic PDL analyzer.
1113
1114        - Typo fixed in PCLXL parser.
1115
[1584]1116        - Correctly dispatches error messages depending on the
1117          situation : tools which can be run interactively will
1118          ALWAYS output their logs to stderr, excepted for
1119          their DEBUG messages, for which the "logger:"
1120          directive as set in pykota.conf will be honored.
1121          Tools which can't be run interactively will ALWAYS
1122          honor the "logger:" directive as set in pykota.conf
1123
[1575]1124    - 1.19alpha28 :
1125
[1582]1126        - The description field for printers can now be set,
1127          and is displayed in reports.
1128
1129        - Fixed a small problem in SQL backend code.
1130
[1578]1131        - Improved pkhint
1132
[1575]1133        - First working PCL6 (aka PCLXL) parser !
1134          Doesn't handle copies yet.
1135
[1570]1136    - 1.19alpha27 :
1137
[1573]1138        - Additionnal 10% speed increase in PCL5 parser for GhostScript
1139          generated files (untested yet with other PCL files).
1140
[1572]1141        - Reintroduced the use of mmap in PCL5 parser : this speedups
1142          PCL5 parsing by almost 4 times.
1143          This 4x with the 3x below give us in fact a twelvefold increase
1144          in performance for PCL5 parsing !
1145
[1570]1146        - The Python accelerator Psyco is now used if available
1147          in the generic PDL parser : it speedups PCL5 parsing by
[1572]1148          almost three times automagically.
[1570]1149
[1564]1150    - 1.19alpha26 :
1151
1152        - Fixed PCL5 parser according to the sources of rastertohp.
1153
[1566]1154        - Fixed number of copies handling in PCL5 parser : the number
1155          of copies could vary from page to page.
[1568]1156
1157        - Added more debug information to PCLXL parser.
[1566]1158
[1556]1159    - 1.19alpha25 :
1160
[1558]1161        - Added new "description" field to printers in both
[1556]1162          PostgreSQL and LDAP. No code to handle this yet.
1163
[1558]1164        - Reversed the fix for power save mode in printers :
[1557]1165          no paper or tray open would have caused people to
1166          be undercharged.
1167
[1558]1168        - Preliminary version of MySQL initialization script.
1169
[1552]1170    - 1.19alpha24 :
1171
1172        - Native PDF parsing code now works perfectly with
1173          Python 2.1 and above, and is way faster than before.
1174          GhostScript is not used anymore to convert PDF to PS,
1175          because PDF is parsed directly.
1176
[1545]1177    - 1.19alpha23 :
1178
[1549]1179        - Fixed waitprinter.sh wrt PowerSave mode and some
1180          printers. Thanks to Ryan Suarez.
1181
[1550]1182        - Smart PDL analyzer now recognizes PDF too : two
1183          PDF parsing methods are used : a native one which
1184          is very fast but requires Python 2.3 or above, and
1185          a slower one which uses Ghostscript. PyKota detects
1186          automatically which method to use depending on your
1187          version of Python.
[1547]1188
[1546]1189        - All tracebacks now include PyKota's version number.
[1545]1190
[1542]1191    - 1.19alpha22 :
1192
[1544]1193        - Ensures that the file pointer for job's data is
1194          reset to the start of the job's datas after the
1195          job's size pre-computation phase.
1196
[1543]1197        - Improved PostScript detection code for bad drivers
1198          which don't correctly switch languages between PJL
1199          and PS.
1200
[1542]1201        - Even better debugging code.
1202
[1541]1203    - 1.19alpha21 :
1204
[1542]1205        - Additionnal check.
[1541]1206
[1536]1207    - 1.19alpha20 :
1208
1209        - More complete logging messages wrt accounters.
1210
[1539]1211        - Now catches early failures occuring when the configuration
1212          files are parsed.
1213
[1526]1214    - 1.19alpha19 :
1215
1216        - Fixed over-verbose exits when displaying help
1217          or version.
[1527]1218
1219        - Extended some PATH in the shell scripts
[1532]1220
1221        - Deleting an user now also deletes his payments history.
1222
1223        - Doesn't explicitely ignore SIGCHLD anymore. This seems to
1224          cause problems.
[1500]1225
[1522]1226    - 1.19alpha18 :
1227
1228        - History of payments is now stored in the database, and
1229          updated each time an user's balance is modified with
1230          edpykota --balance. This history represents each time
1231          the user was given some positive or negative credit,
1232          but doesn't reflect price paid for jobs, which appear
1233          in the jobs history instead.
1234
[1524]1235        - Jobs history web reports now include the job's size in
1236          bytes. Also columns were reordered to render the report
1237          more easily readable.
1238
[1517]1239    - 1.19alpha17 :
1240
1241        - Mysterious bug (program exited unexpectedly without leaving
1242          any log message) which occured once in a while when
1243          cancelling jobs should be fixed now.
1244
1245        - New 'crashrecipient' directive. Disabled by
1246          default. See sample configuration file to see how
1247          to activate it. It is suggested that you activate it.
1248
1249        - New PYKOTAJOBSIZEBYTES environment variable exported,
[1519]1250          which contains the job's size in bytes. Empty jobs
[1521]1251          are now denied. This value is now stored in the job
1252          history (but not yet displayed from the web interface)
[1517]1253
[1521]1254        - Preliminary work on payments storage : the PostgreSQL
1255          and LDAP schemas should be OK now, but no code is written
1256          yet to support this functionnality.
1257
[1502]1258    - 1.19alpha16 :
1259
[1510]1260        - the newuser and newgroup LDAP specific directives now accept
1261          a second parameter to attach(), "fail" or "warn". If no entry
1262          is found to attach PyKota attributes to, and "fail" was used,
1263          then action is aborted and program exits in error. If "warn"
1264          is used, a new entry is created but a warning message is logged.
1265
[1502]1266        - The job's originating hostname is now stored in the database,
1267          and exported as PYKOTAJOBORIGINATINGHOSTNAME in the environment.
1268
[1500]1269    - 1.19alpha15 :
1270
1271        - The old pykota filter is now removed. This means that
1272          currently PyKota doesn't support LPRng anymore, but
1273          LPRng support will be re-added, improved, in the near future.
1274
[1495]1275    - 1.19alpha14 :
1276
[1499]1277        - PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBSIZE and PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBPRICE
1278          are now exported as environment variables.
1279
[1498]1280        - Heavy CPU usage is now completely fixed it seems, by
1281          introducing some 0.01 second sleeping when nothing to do.
1282
[1497]1283        - Pre-computation of the job's size is now only
1284          done when enforcement is "STRICT", this saves
1285          CPU for people who don't want to use this new
1286          feature.
1287
[1495]1288        - New 'enforcement' directive which accepts either
1289          STRICT or LAXIST. See sample configuration file
1290          for details.
1291
[1494]1292    - 1.19alpha13 :
1293
1294        - Get back to an old version of the polling loop which
1295          worked fine, but non-optimally. Will be optimized
1296          as time permits.
1297
[1492]1298    - 1.19alpha12 :
1299
1300        - Job's size is now precomputed unconditionnally using
1301          the generic PDL analyzer.
1302          NB : This value is not yet used to pre-allow/deny the
1303          job.
1304
[1490]1305    - 1.19alpha11 :
1306
1307        - The pykota filter is now completely deprecated and
1308          can't be used anymore. LPRng users MUST download
1309          an older version of PyKota. CUPS users MUST use
1310          cupspykota. Better support for LPRng will come
1311          in the near future.
1312
[1483]1313    - 1.19alpha10 :
1314
[1488]1315        - pykotme now uses generic PDL Analyzer directly instead
1316          of spawning a new process.
1317
[1487]1318        - Improvements to generic PDL Analyzer.
1319
[1485]1320        - 25% Speedup in PCL parser. Getting more of the Python version
1321          will probably be difficult, since the completely table driven
1322          parser I wrote is slower than the original algorithm. Then,
1323          the original algorithm is still used for now.
1324          Probable that more speed could be achieved using mmap, at the
1325          expense of severe memory consumption.
1326
[1483]1327        - configuration simplifications : the "accounter" directive's
1328          'hardware' arguments now accepts what was in the "requester"
1329          directive as it's content. The "requester" directive is not
1330          supported anymore. See sample configuration file for details.
1331
[1478]1332    - 1.19alpha9 :
1333
[1482]1334        - pkpgcounter is now just a wrapper around the PDLAnalyzer class
1335
[1480]1336        - pykotaOptions LDAP attribute now accepts non-ascii characters
1337          too.
1338
[1478]1339        - First try at cupspykota main loop rewrite

[1149]1797    - 1.15alpha8 :
1798
1799        - Job history can be disabled if needed.
1800          This feature may be useful for people who use the LDAP
1801          backend and don't want their LDAP tree to grow out of
1802          control.
1803
[1138]1804    - 1.15alpha7 :
1805
1806        - More work done on caching wrt groups.
1807
[1135]1808    - 1.15alpha6 :
1809
1810        - Performance bottleneck with LDAP solved.
1811
[1130]1812    - 1.15alpha5 :
1813
1814        - Caching mechanism for all database queries.
1815
[1123]1816    - 1.15alpha4 :
1817
1818        - Problem with Python 2.3 fixed. Needs some definitive
1819          modification.
1820
[1121]1821    - 1.15alpha3 :
1822
1823        - CGI script now tries to restrict view when the
1824          REMOTE_USER environment variable is set. This allows
1825          people to protect its use with .htaccess files.
1826          When unprotected, or if REMOTE_USER is 'root', then
1827          unrestricted access is granted.
[1122]1828          NB : REMOTE_USER is automatically set by the web server
1829          (e.g. Apache) when a page with restricted access is viewed.
[1121]1830
[1116]1831    - 1.15alpha2 :
1832
1833        - Better detection of LPRng.
1834
1835        - Outputs a warning if printing system is unknown.
1836
[1115]1837    - 1.15alpha1 :
1838
1839        - Bug fix in SQL code.
1840
[1113]1841    - 1.14 :
1842
1843        - The PostgreSQL database connection is now always closed before
1844          exit. The LDAP database connection too, but it didn't suffer
1845          from the problem anyway, AFAICT.
1846
[1111]1847    - 1.14beta2 :
1848
1849        - An LDAP-specific configuration field was introduced, usermail.
1850          Use it to specify which LDAP attribute contains a valid email
1851          address for the user. See sample configuration file for
1852          details.
1853
[1105]1854    - 1.14beta :
1855
1856        - Two new LDAP-specific configuration fields were introduced,
1857          newuser and newgroup. Use them to specify if you want to add
1858          quota information to existing entries or elsewhere.
1859          See sample configuration file for details.
1860
[1099]1861    - 1.14alpha9 :
1862
1863        - Documentation improved.
1864
1865        - pykotme now also prints the user's account balance value
1866          if the user is registered in the Quota Storage and his
1867          limiting factor is "balance".
1868
[1095]1869    - 1.14alpha8 :
1870
1871        - bin/waitprinter.sh is now included to wait for
1872          SNMP enabled printers to be idle again before
1873          asking for their internal page counter.
1874          See sample configuration file for details.
1875
[1089]1876    - 1.14alpha7 :
1877
1878        - edpykota now doesn't check if the user/group is above
1879          quota. The check is only done at print time. This
1880          prevents the sending of email messages when creating
1881          user quotas if quota is already reached at creation
1882          time.
1883
[1087]1884    - 1.14alpha6 :
1885
1886        - Configuration file split and moved to /etc/pykota/pykota.conf
1887          and /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf to prevent simple users to
1888          have Read/Write access to the Quota Database.
1889          Don't forget to :
1890
1891                $ chmod 640 /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf
1892
1893        - storageuser and storageuserpw configuration fields reintroduced
1894          for the same reason.
1895
1896        - Code cleaning for future implementation of email addresses
1897          support in the PostgreSQL and LDAP backends.
1898
[1085]1899    - 1.14alpha5 :
1900
1901        - Big bug fixed when changing the prices for a printer
1902
[1082]1903    - 1.14alpha4 :
1904
1905        - When adding an user, the user itself and its account balance
1906          are now added in the same LDAP entry. Before they were added
1907          as two different LDAP entries.
1908
[1079]1909    - 1.14alpha3 :
1910
1911        - Email field added to PostgreSQL database. An upgrade script
1912          is included in initscripts/postgresql.
1913
[1078]1914    - 1.14alpha2 :
1915
1916        - Typo fixed when using the --prototype option to edpykota
1917
[1077]1918    - 1.14alpha1 :
1919
1920        - Poor man's treshold included : users with a low account
1921          balance (below 1.0 by default, configurable) are sent
1922          a warning message.
1923
1924        - All warning messages to users are now configurable.
1925          NB : Warning messages to the administrator are not.
1926
[1068]1927    - 1.13 :
1928
[1072]1929        - Some small fixes wrt group handling.
1930
[1068]1931        - The whole module code was passed through PyChecker and
1932          several small code inconsistencies were fixed,
1933          as well as a bug in the groups code.
1934
[1067]1935    - 1.13alpha1 :
1936
1937        - Bug fix wrt LDAP.
1938
[1065]1939    - 1.12 :
1940
1941        - More complete test added in edpykota.
1942
[1062]1943    - 1.12alpha2 :
1944
1945        - The previous bug fix was incomplete. This is corrected.
1946
[1061]1947    - 1.12alpha1 :
1948
1949        - Small bug fix.
1950
[1057]1951    - 1.11 :
1952
1953        - Now includes the pykotme command line tool, to produce
1954          printing quotes for users.
1955
[1056]1956    - 1.10 :
1957
1958        - Bug fixed wrt quota reports when print limiting is by
1959          account balance.
1960
[1052]1961    - 1.09 :
1962
1963        - Translations finalized.
1964
1965        - Manpages updated.
1966
1967        - Installation documentation improved wrt LDAP support.
1968
[1049]1969    - 1.09beta2 :
1970
1971        - The CGI script for quota reports works again, and
1972          is much more powerful.
1973
[1043]1974    - 1.09beta :
1975
1976        - edpykota finalized
1977
[1041]1978    - 1.09alpha2 :
1979
1980        - LDAP schema modified a bit. Please upgrade.
1981
1982        - LDAP backend works !
1983
1984        - repykota and warnpykota allow the root user to pass
1985          users or groups names on the command line. Users
1986          and groups names may contain wildcards.
1987
1988        - repykota and warnpykota only reports or warns the
1989          current user when launched by non-root users.
1990
1991        - Minor bug fixes.
1992
[1029]1993    - 1.09alpha1 :
1994
1995        - More work on LDAP storage backend. Many options
1996          were added to /etc/pykota.conf to give some
1997          hints to the LDAP storage backend.
[1044]1998
1999        - Severe database access optimizations were done by
2000          rewriting most of the Quota Storage backends drivers.
[1029]2001
[1027]2002    - 1.08 :
2003
2004        - Major bug fix wrt LPRng support for remote jobs.
[1029]2005
[1027]2006        - Major bug fix wrt increase/decrease account balances.
2007
[1021]2008    - 1.08alpha8 :
2009
2010        - Code refactoring.
[1029]2011
[1021]2012        - A single user/password pair is used to connect
2013          to the database backend. The storageuser configuration
2014          field, and its associated passwords storageuserpw, are
2015          not used anymore.
[1029]2016
[1022]2017        - You can now set PyKota in debug mode, see sample configuration
2018          file for details.
2019          WARNING : only Quota Storage backend queries are logged in
2020          debug mode, for now.
[1021]2021
[1019]2022    - 1.08alpha7 :
2023
2024        - Very latest LDAP schema.
[1029]2025
[1019]2026        - Code enhancement wrt easy pluggability of PyKota attributes
2027          and object classes into an existing LDAP directory.
2028
[1017]2029    - 1.08alpha6 :
2030
2031        - Minor bug corrections
[1029]2032
[1017]2033        - More work on LDAP : new schema
2034
[1016]2035    - 1.08alpha5 :
2036
[1017]2037        - More good work on LDAP storage.
2038          repykota now works reasonably well with the sample LDAP directory.
[1016]2039
[1014]2040    - 1.08alpha4 :
2041
2042        - LDAP schema included.
2043          THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT THIS.
2044          LDAP SUPPORT DOESN'T WORK YET, AND THE SCHEMA
2045          MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE TELL US
2046          WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS SCHEMA ON THE
2047          MAILING LIST.
2048
[1000]2049    - 1.08alpha3 :
2050
2051        - External accounting methods were partly rewritten :
2052
2053          - No more "broken pipe" should happen.
2054
2055          - They now take care of the number of copies
2056            This may be unneeded though, if the postscript
2057            file already does this, because this would
2058            overcharge users (number of copies counted
2059            two times). NEEDS MORE TESTING.
2060
2061          - The sample configuration file now contains
2062            an external accounting method example which should
2063            work with all DSC compliant Postscript files.
2064
2065        - Some small bugs were fixed.
2066
[998]2067    - 1.08alpha2 :
2068
2069        - Now works with net-snmp v5.0 and above.
2070          It already worked, but the sample configuration
[1000]2071          file didn't contain appropriate values...
[998]2072
[991]2073    - 1.07 : Release of the Shame !
2074
2075        - The external accounting methods driver was left out of
2076          the CVS tree. Nobody could use it since it wasn't included !
2077
[989]2078    - 1.06 :
2079
2080        - Severe bug fixed : if you had a printer in
2081          power saving state which couldn't answer immediately,
2082          a bug was triggered.
2083          It was caused by a bad copy/paste which
2084          forgot to import a Python module at run time.
2085
[980]2086    - 1.05 :
2087
2088        - External accounters are finally available !
2089          This means that you can plug any page accounting
2090          method you like by setting the appropriate
2091          'accounter' field in /etc/pykota.conf
2092          See the sample conf/pykota.conf.sample to
2093          learn how to do.
2094
2095          NB : Both 'external' and 'stupid' accounting methods
2096               account a job size just before *this* job is
2097               sent to the printer.
2098               The original 'querying' method accounts a job
2099               size just before *the next* job is sent to
2100               the printer.
2101
[976]2102    - 1.05alpha3 :
2103
2104        - A 'stupid' and unreliable accounting method was
2105          implemented to serve as an example on how to
2106          do this sort of things. This method only counts
2107          the 'showpage' statements in the input data.
2108          See sample configuration file for details.
2109          Pluggable accounting methods work, but I advise
2110          you TO NOT USE THIS ONE WHICH IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.
2111          It is not reliable enough to be used.
[978]2112          Use the 'querying' accounting method instead.
[976]2113
[973]2114    - 1.05alpha2 :
2115
2116        - Pluggable accounting methods.
2117
[975]2118        - Better error handling.
2119
[962]2120    - 1.05alpha1 :
2121
[969]2122        - SECURITY file added to help improve PyKota's security.
2123
[962]2124        - Extracting the printer's internal page counter is now
2125          tried several times, waiting several seconds between
2126          two tries. This lets the time to warm up for some printers
2127          which don't answer when they are sleeping (my Apple
2128          LaserWriter 16/600 PS is in this case, maybe others too)
2129
[970]2130        - Small display bug fixed in repykota
2131
[960]2132    - 1.04 :
[956]2133
2134        - Default print policy for users/groups unknown from
2135          the print quota system is now DENY instead of ALLOW,
2136          since ALLOW can generate inaccurate results
2137          (incorrect job sizes charged to the wrong persons)
2138
[954]2139        - LPRng support works !
2140
[953]2141        - A bug was introduced some time ago wrt printers' default
2142          policy for unknown users. It is now corrected.
2143
[950]2144        - repykota now displays prices per job and per page for each
2145          printer, if they are defined.
2146
[947]2147        - Minor display bug fixed in repykota.
2148
2149        - Problem when running repykota with an empty database was fixed.
2150
[942]2151    - 1.03 :
2152
2153        - Upgrade script included for earlier versions.
2154          Please look inside the initscripts subdirectory.
[965]2155          THE DATABASE SCHEMA HAS CHANGED, PLEASE UPGRADE.
[942]2156
[932]2157        - repykota now reports account balances too.
[929]2158
[932]2159        - PyKota now has a nice logo, see the logos
2160          subdirectory.
2161
[936]2162        - Manual pages were finally updated.
2163
[927]2164        - Group quotas seem to work now !
2165
[910]2166        - The new database schema allows to keep an history of all
2167          jobs as well as charge users per page and/or per job,
2168          and track users' account balance.
2169
[917]2170        - edpykota now accepts much more command line options to
2171          use the new functionnalities. See edpykota --help for
2172          details.
2173
[885]2174        - The installation script now allows to install the sample
2175          configuration file during first installation.
[892]2176
2177        - More group quota code works, but still not finished.
[885]2178
[894]2179        - The CGI script displays a link to PyKota's website.
2180
[899]2181        - The job history is now kept, this will allow per-period
2182          reports in the future.
[900]2183
2184        - After having modified the quota for an user with edpykota,
2185          a quota check is done to eventually warn the user/admin about
2186          a quota which is too low to print.
2187
[901]2188        - A workaround is provided for HP Printers : their internal
2189          page counter is only saved to NVRAM in a 10 increment, so
2190          if you switch them off and then on, the reported page counter
2191          may be lower than the real number of pages printed.
2192          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[909]2193          We unconditionnally set the last job's page count to
2194          abs(int((10 - abs(lastcounter(snmp) - lastcounter(storage)) / 2))
2195          in this case.
[908]2196          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
2197          off.
[901]2198
2199        - A fix is provided for printers which only have a volatile
2200          page counter (reset to 0 every time you switch the printer on)
[908]2201          This should allow PyKota to work reasonably fine with HP Laserjet
2202          4L/5L/6L, not perfect, but better than nothing.
[901]2203          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[908]2204          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
[925]2205          off. This is untested, please report any problem.
[901]2206
[907]2207        - A bug was fixed when edpykota --add was used with users who already
2208          had a quota on the specified printer.
2209
[913]2210        - A small display bug in repykota was introduced in preliminary
2211          1.03 versions, and fixed later on.
[915]2212
2213        - Some minor bugs which happened in rare situations were fixed.
[913]2214
[919]2215        - Support for AppleTalk printers was added, see sample configuration
2216          file for details.
[925]2217
2218        - Users and group printing can now be controlled (limited) either by
2219          print quota or by account balance.
[919]2220
[877]2221    - 1.02 :
[859]2222
[871]2223        - The installation script now checks for software availability
2224          and in case a software is missing asks the user if he
2225          wants to continue with the installation or abort it.
2226
[872]2227        - The configuration file pykota.conf is now expected to be
2228          found in /etc instead of in /etc/cups
2229          The installation script prompts the user to see if he
2230          wants to move an old configuration file to the new location
2231          if needed.
2232
[859]2233        - Improved documentation.
2234
2235        - You can now set the tcp/ip port on which the Quota Storage
2236          Server is listening, see sample configuration file for details.
2237
[872]2238        - Better general error handling.
[859]2239
[875]2240        - Upgrade script for pre 1.01 PostgreSQL database schema is now
2241          included as well.
2242
[852]2243    - 1.01 :
2244
2245        - The configuration file now accepts an option
2246          to choose the recipient(s) of the email messages :
2247
2248            - DevNull means no one will receive them.
2249            - User means only the user will receive them.
2250            - Admin means only the admin will receive them.
2251            - Both means the User and the Admin will receive them.
2252
[853]2253        - The configuration file now uses hard-coded default values
2254          when an option is not set. See sample configuration file
2255          for details.
2256
[852]2257        - Manual pages are included since 1.00, but I forgot to
2258          add this information to this file.
2259
[855]2260        - Redistribution terms for the official package have
2261          softened and are now fully GPL compatible :
2262          unrestricted modification is now allowed even for
2263          the version number.
2264
[846]2265    - 1.00 :
2266
2267        - edpykota now accepts a --noquota option. This
2268          disable quota checking while still doing page
2269          accounting. This is really useful for people
2270          who don't want to limit their users but want
2271          to know how much pages they print.
2272
2273        - Some untested scripts were added to retrieve
2274          the life time page counter of non-SNMP printers.
2275
2276        - Every directory now has a specific README file.
2277
[833]2278    - 0.99 :
2279
2280        - Under some circumstances while the user wasn't allowed
2281          to print, he didn't receive any email message. It is
2282          now fixed.
2283
2284        - When an user wasn't allowed to print, the quota for
[835]2285          the previous user wasn't updated. This is now fixed.
[833]2286
[827]2287    - 0.98 :
2288
2289        - Correctly handle the case where the printer is switched off.
2290
[828]2291        - Small bug wrt syslog fixed.
2292
[819]2293    - 0.97 :
2294
2295        - edpykota accepts wildcards on its command line for users/groups too
2296          if the --add option is not set, e.g. :
2297
2298              $ edpykota --printer lp --softlimit 50 --hardlimit 100 "jer*"
2299
[821]2300        - If no user name is passed at all, then a default wildcard of "*"
[819]2301          which means apply the command on ALL users for this printer is used.
2302
2303        - Small bug fixes.
2304
[803]2305    - 0.96 :
2306
[808]2307        - Options requester, policy, admin, adminmail and gracedelay can now
[807]2308          be set either globally or per printer. The printer option has
2309          priority if both are defined.
[803]2310
[807]2311        - More powerful configuration parser.
2312
2313        - If all options are defined globally, there's no need to
2314          define a section for each printer in the configuration
2315          file anymore. Just define a [global] section and it's ok.
[803]2316
[797]2317    - 0.95 :
2318
[798]2319        - External requesters for printers finally added.
[797]2320
2321        - Full internationalization (english and french are supported)
2322
2323        - More complete quota usage report
2324
2325        - CGI script to access to the quota usage report
2326

2328
2329
2330    - 0.9 :
