22PyKota NEWS :
[2044]23
[2062]24    - 1.21alpha25 :
25
26        - The job's size is now always precomputed, even when
27          'enforcement' is not set to 'strict'.
28
29        - Introduction of the new 'trustjobsize' configuration directive
30          to workaround some problematic printers. See the sample
31          configuration file for details.
32
[2054]33    - 1.21alpha24 :
34
35        - Big database structure changes. An upgrade script
36          is now included for PostgreSQL. LDAP users may just
37          want to copy the new schema in place.
38
39        - edpykota now recognizes the -o | --overcharge command line
40          option to set an overcharging or undercharging factor
41          on each print job's cost for a particular user.
42
43        - repykota's output format has changed an is not limited to
44          80 characters wide anymore. People who used to parse
45          repykota's output in their own tools are strongly advised
46          to parse dumpykota's output instead.
47
48        - Introduction of the new 'maxdenybanners' configuration directive
49          to allow up to N (the directive's value) deny banners to be
50          printed even if the print account is forbidden to print.
51
52        - Better detection of the number of copies in the PostScript parser.
53
[2044]54    - 1.21alpha23 :
55
56        - Traditional Chinese translation added.
57
58        - Several fixes and performance improvements with the LDAP backend.
59
[2036]60    - 1.21alpha22 :
61
62        - edpykota's --delete command line option doesn't consider
63          '*' to be the default argument anymore :-)
64
[2032]65    - 1.21alpha21 :
[2030]66
[2032]67        - dumpykota.cgi can now be run as a normal user as opposed to
68          a PyKota administrator. No read access to pykotadmin.conf is
69          necessary anymore. This CGI scripts now honors the REMOTE_USER
70          environment variable just like printquota.cgi does, see
71          the file cgi-bin/README for details.
72          The command line tool dumpykota must still be run by a PyKota
73          administrator.
[2030]74
[2032]75        - Fix exception's name error due to a change in recent versions
76          of PygreSQL.
77
78    - 1.21alpha20 :
79
80        - Big bug fix wrt the datelimit field which was never reset.
81
[2020]82    - 1.21alpha19 :
83
84        - Introduction of the new dumpykota.cgi CGI script, which
85          allows third party tools like phpPrintAnalyzer to be
86          interfaced in real time with PyKota. To use it you
87          may have to change your web server's configuration,
88          please see pykota/cgi-bin/README
89
[2013]90    - 1.21alpha18 :
91
[2014]92        - Now dumpykota can dump the job history into CUPS' page_log
[2013]93          format (even when the printing system is LPRng). This allows
94          people to use tools like PrintAnalyzer or phpPrintAnalyzer
95          (two completely different beasts) with PyKota.
96
[2002]97    - 1.21alpha17 :
98
[2010]99        - Fixed field type's name in XML dumps.
100
[2006]101        - Now drops priviledges to user 'pykota' when launched as root
102          (directly or as a CUPS backend), if such an user exists.
103
[2002]104        - Fixed PCL3/4/5 parser for some drivers' output.
105
[1998]106    - 1.21alpha16 :
107
108        - fixed several recently introduced bugs in LDAP backend code,
109          thanks to Matt Hyclak.
110
[1993]111    - 1.21alpha15 :
112
[1995]113        - Normalized field names between LDAP and PostgreSQL backends
114          in dumpykota's output.
115
[1993]116        - dumpykota filtering capabilities are now supported within
117          the LDAP backend too.
118
[1991]119    - 1.21alpha14 :
120
121        - dumpykota now supports extended filtering possibilities
122          with the PostgreSQL backend (LDAP support will come soon).
123
[1980]124    - 1.21alpha13 :
125
126        - Added a --debug command line option to pkpgcounter, so
127          that people may see what really happens, and what will
128          be available in the future :-)
129
[1974]130    - 1.21alpha12 :
131
[1977]132        - Fixed a bug with non standard pkbanner command lines.
133
[1974]134        - Now logs as errors the differences between precomputed and
[1975]135          computed job sizes. **CUPS only for now**
[1974]136
[1967]137    - 1.21alpha11 :
138
[1969]139        - Now user and group print quota entries can be stored directly
140          below the user or group with the LDAP backend, using them
141          as branches. Thanks to Stefan Wold for the patch.
142          See the sample configuration file for details.
143
[1968]144        - TLS is now supported with the LDAP backend. Thanks to Stefan
145          Wold for the patch.
[1969]146          See the sample configuration file for details.
[1968]147
[1967]148        - edpkota now accepts the -U | --used value command line argument
149          to preset the page counters to an initial value. Thanks to
150          Wilson Roberto Afonso and Matt Hyclak for the patch.
151
[1966]152    - 1.21alpha10 :
153
154        - Now automatically reconnects up to three times if the LDAP server
155          returned an error, possibly due to a timeout.
156
[1961]157    - 1.21alpha9 :
158
[1962]159        - Now searches the configuration files in 'pykota' system user's
[1961]160          home directory. The 'pykota' system user and group have
161          to be created by the system administrator, and given
162          sufficient permissions to PyKota's configuration files.
163
[1956]164    - 1.21alpha8 :

193
[1923]194    - 1.21alpha3 :
195
196        - PyKota can now generate its own banners, and either account
197          for them or not, depending on newly introduced directives
198          in pykota.conf
199          Thanks to Matt Hyclak for the patch.
200
[1905]201    - 1.21alpha2 :
202
[1913]203        - Installation script is now non interactive again, as it should
[1905]204          have stayed from the beginning. Dependencies checking can
205          be done by launching the checkdeps.py command.
206

[1742]335    - 1.20alpha15 :
336
337        - LDAP pykotaAccountBalance objects were always created
338          attached to the pykotaUser objects. This is now
339          fixed and the value of balancebase in pykota.conf
340          is now correctly used.
341

354        - Hardware accounter now accepts the special
355          'snmp' value, meaning ALL is done from main code
356          without launching any subprocess.
357          You need the http://pysnmp.sf.net Python module
358          for this to work (tested with v3.4.2)
359
[1731]360        - Increased delay between two loops iterations
361          to 2 seconds in waitprinter.sh to diminish

366        - waitprinter.sh rewritten from scratch to wait
367          for printer status stabilization.
368
[1717]369    - 1.20alpha11 :
370
371        - Generic data dumper 'dumpykota' introduced.
372          Works only with PostgreSQL backend for now.
373
[1713]374    - 1.20alpha10 :
375
376        - Added fix for incorrect job's size computation when
377          hardware accounting fails.

389
390        - First draft of PCL3GUI (Deskjet 640C for example) analyzer.
391          Needs more work, but no documentation is available.
392
[1692]393    - 1.20alpha6 :
394
[1697]395        - Improved mailandpopup.sh script.
396

[1695]398
[1694]399        - Now exports PYKOTAPRINTERHOSTNAME for network printers'
400          hostname or IP address. Set to 'localhost' when not
401          meaningful.
402
[1693]403        - Fixed issue with how mod_auth_ldap Apache modules
404          fills the REMOTE_USER environment variable.
405
[1692]406        - Fixed a bug in LDAP user deletion code.
407
[1687]408    - 1.20alpha5 :
409
410        - Introduces the new configuration directive 'onaccountererror'
411          to specify what must be done whenever the software or
412          hardware accounter fails. Allowed values are 'continue' and
413          'stop' (default).
414
415        - Minor fix in software accounter for a recently introduced
416          problem.
417
[1686]418    - 1.20alpha4 :
419
420        - Added support for more ghostscript devices in ESC/P2
421          analyzer : stcolor, st800, escp, escpc are now supported.
422
[1680]423    - 1.20alpha3 :
424
[1683]425        - Small improvement in PostScript parser to avoid being
426          fooled by a change in number of copies :
427          The user can't ask for 200 copies of page 1 and 1 copy
428          of page 2 to fool PyKota anymore :
429          this would have been accounted for as 1 copy only, but
430          now the maximum value seen is used.
431
[1681]432        - Relax checks for PCL5 header to accomodate some strange
433          printer drivers.
434
[1680]435        - Now hardware accounting method works like software
436          accounting method wrt the subprocess' output.
437
[1681]438        - Hardware and Software accounting stop the print queue
439          when the accounting subprocess didn't work. This will
440          be configurable in the near future.
441
[1676]442    - 1.20alpha2 :
443
[1678]444        - Now software accounting method reads accounter's
445          answer until a line with a single integer is
446          obtained or until all of its output has been read.
447          This should fix the problem some people have
448          when strange locale related messages are sent
449          when running subprocesses (Solaris only ?).
450
[1676]451        - First version of ESC/P2 analyzer. Seems to work
452          ok at least with 'epson', 'epsonc', 'eps9mid'
453          and 'esp9high' ghostscript devices. Needs more
454          work to correctly analyze other devices.
455

[1629]482    - 1.19beta :
483
484        - LPRng support for both software and hardware accounting seems
485          to be OK.
486
487        - Translation files fixed because of fuzzy matching problem.
488

494
[1622]495    - 1.19alpha35 :
496
497        - Generic PDL analyzer now supports Binary PostScript documents
498          in addition to DSC compliant ones.
499
[1611]500    - 1.19alpha34 :
501
502        - LPRng support : software accounting seems to work fine,
503          but hardware accounting doesn't work yet.
504
[1605]505    - 1.19alpha33 :
506
507        - pykosd now accepts command line arguments. Enjoy !
508          NB : due to a bug in xosd, you need xosd version 2.2.8
509          or higher if you don't use the default C locale.
510
[1600]511    - 1.19alpha32 :
512
[1604]513        - Early (not working) version of the LPRng support rewrite.
[1600]514
[1604]515        - Saner default configuration file.
516
[1599]517    - 1.19alpha31 :
518
519        - Fixed a double Python2.1 incompatibility with newer versions,
520          which prevented the PCL5 and the PCLXL parsers to work with
521          this older version of Python.
522
[1592]523    - 1.19alpha30 :
524
[1595]525        - Introduction of preliminary version of the pykosd command
526
[1593]527        - Usernames, Groupnames and Printernames can now contain
528          ANY character, expected '/' and '@'.
529
[1592]530        - Integrated most of the Debian work from Sergio
531          Gonzz Gonzz
532
[1584]533    - 1.19alpha29 :
534
[1591]535        - PCLXL parser should now correctly handle number of
536          copies set for each page.
537
[1588]538        - Added testsuite for generic PDL analyzer.
539
540        - Typo fixed in PCLXL parser.
541
[1584]542        - Correctly dispatches error messages depending on the
543          situation : tools which can be run interactively will
544          ALWAYS output their logs to stderr, excepted for
545          their DEBUG messages, for which the "logger:"
546          directive as set in pykota.conf will be honored.
547          Tools which can't be run interactively will ALWAYS
548          honor the "logger:" directive as set in pykota.conf
549
[1575]550    - 1.19alpha28 :
551
[1582]552        - The description field for printers can now be set,
553          and is displayed in reports.
554
555        - Fixed a small problem in SQL backend code.
556
[1578]557        - Improved pkhint
558
[1575]559        - First working PCL6 (aka PCLXL) parser !
560          Doesn't handle copies yet.
561
[1570]562    - 1.19alpha27 :
563
[1573]564        - Additionnal 10% speed increase in PCL5 parser for GhostScript
565          generated files (untested yet with other PCL files).
566
[1572]567        - Reintroduced the use of mmap in PCL5 parser : this speedups
568          PCL5 parsing by almost 4 times.
569          This 4x with the 3x below give us in fact a twelvefold increase
570          in performance for PCL5 parsing !
571
[1570]572        - The Python accelerator Psyco is now used if available
573          in the generic PDL parser : it speedups PCL5 parsing by
[1572]574          almost three times automagically.
[1570]575
[1564]576    - 1.19alpha26 :
577
578        - Fixed PCL5 parser according to the sources of rastertohp.
579
[1566]580        - Fixed number of copies handling in PCL5 parser : the number
581          of copies could vary from page to page.
[1568]582
583        - Added more debug information to PCLXL parser.
[1566]584
[1556]585    - 1.19alpha25 :
586
[1558]587        - Added new "description" field to printers in both
[1556]588          PostgreSQL and LDAP. No code to handle this yet.
589
[1558]590        - Reversed the fix for power save mode in printers :
[1557]591          no paper or tray open would have caused people to
592          be undercharged.
593
[1558]594        - Preliminary version of MySQL initialization script.
595
[1552]596    - 1.19alpha24 :
597
598        - Native PDF parsing code now works perfectly with
599          Python 2.1 and above, and is way faster than before.
600          GhostScript is not used anymore to convert PDF to PS,
601          because PDF is parsed directly.
602
[1545]603    - 1.19alpha23 :
604
[1549]605        - Fixed waitprinter.sh wrt PowerSave mode and some
606          printers. Thanks to Ryan Suarez.
607
[1550]608        - Smart PDL analyzer now recognizes PDF too : two
609          PDF parsing methods are used : a native one which
610          is very fast but requires Python 2.3 or above, and
611          a slower one which uses Ghostscript. PyKota detects
612          automatically which method to use depending on your
613          version of Python.
[1547]614
[1546]615        - All tracebacks now include PyKota's version number.
[1545]616
[1542]617    - 1.19alpha22 :
618
[1544]619        - Ensures that the file pointer for job's data is
620          reset to the start of the job's datas after the
621          job's size pre-computation phase.
622
[1543]623        - Improved PostScript detection code for bad drivers
624          which don't correctly switch languages between PJL
625          and PS.
626
[1542]627        - Even better debugging code.
628
[1541]629    - 1.19alpha21 :
630
[1542]631        - Additionnal check.
[1541]632
[1536]633    - 1.19alpha20 :
634
635        - More complete logging messages wrt accounters.
636
[1539]637        - Now catches early failures occuring when the configuration
638          files are parsed.
639
[1526]640    - 1.19alpha19 :
641
642        - Fixed over-verbose exits when displaying help
643          or version.
[1527]644
645        - Extended some PATH in the shell scripts
[1532]646
647        - Deleting an user now also deletes his payments history.
648
649        - Doesn't explicitely ignore SIGCHLD anymore. This seems to
650          cause problems.
[1500]651
[1522]652    - 1.19alpha18 :
653
654        - History of payments is now stored in the database, and
655          updated each time an user's balance is modified with
656          edpykota --balance. This history represents each time
657          the user was given some positive or negative credit,
658          but doesn't reflect price paid for jobs, which appear
659          in the jobs history instead.
660
[1524]661        - Jobs history web reports now include the job's size in
662          bytes. Also columns were reordered to render the report
663          more easily readable.
664
[1517]665    - 1.19alpha17 :
666
667        - Mysterious bug (program exited unexpectedly without leaving
668          any log message) which occured once in a while when
669          cancelling jobs should be fixed now.
670
671        - New 'crashrecipient' directive. Disabled by
672          default. See sample configuration file to see how
673          to activate it. It is suggested that you activate it.
674
675        - New PYKOTAJOBSIZEBYTES environment variable exported,
[1519]676          which contains the job's size in bytes. Empty jobs
[1521]677          are now denied. This value is now stored in the job
678          history (but not yet displayed from the web interface)
[1517]679
[1521]680        - Preliminary work on payments storage : the PostgreSQL
681          and LDAP schemas should be OK now, but no code is written
682          yet to support this functionnality.
683
[1502]684    - 1.19alpha16 :
685
[1510]686        - the newuser and newgroup LDAP specific directives now accept
687          a second parameter to attach(), "fail" or "warn". If no entry
688          is found to attach PyKota attributes to, and "fail" was used,
689          then action is aborted and program exits in error. If "warn"
690          is used, a new entry is created but a warning message is logged.
691
[1502]692        - The job's originating hostname is now stored in the database,
693          and exported as PYKOTAJOBORIGINATINGHOSTNAME in the environment.
694
[1500]695    - 1.19alpha15 :
696
697        - The old pykota filter is now removed. This means that
698          currently PyKota doesn't support LPRng anymore, but
699          LPRng support will be re-added, improved, in the near future.
700
[1495]701    - 1.19alpha14 :
702
[1499]703        - PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBSIZE and PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBPRICE
704          are now exported as environment variables.
705
[1498]706        - Heavy CPU usage is now completely fixed it seems, by
707          introducing some 0.01 second sleeping when nothing to do.
708
[1497]709        - Pre-computation of the job's size is now only
710          done when enforcement is "STRICT", this saves
711          CPU for people who don't want to use this new
712          feature.
713
[1495]714        - New 'enforcement' directive which accepts either
715          STRICT or LAXIST. See sample configuration file
716          for details.
717
[1494]718    - 1.19alpha13 :
719
720        - Get back to an old version of the polling loop which
721          worked fine, but non-optimally. Will be optimized
722          as time permits.
723
[1492]724    - 1.19alpha12 :
725
726        - Job's size is now precomputed unconditionnally using
727          the generic PDL analyzer.
728          NB : This value is not yet used to pre-allow/deny the
729          job.
730
[1490]731    - 1.19alpha11 :
732
733        - The pykota filter is now completely deprecated and
734          can't be used anymore. LPRng users MUST download
735          an older version of PyKota. CUPS users MUST use
736          cupspykota. Better support for LPRng will come
737          in the near future.
738
[1483]739    - 1.19alpha10 :
740
[1488]741        - pykotme now uses generic PDL Analyzer directly instead
742          of spawning a new process.
743
[1487]744        - Improvements to generic PDL Analyzer.
745
[1485]746        - 25% Speedup in PCL parser. Getting more of the Python version
747          will probably be difficult, since the completely table driven
748          parser I wrote is slower than the original algorithm. Then,
749          the original algorithm is still used for now.
750          Probable that more speed could be achieved using mmap, at the
751          expense of severe memory consumption.
752
[1483]753        - configuration simplifications : the "accounter" directive's
754          'hardware' arguments now accepts what was in the "requester"
755          directive as it's content. The "requester" directive is not
756          supported anymore. See sample configuration file for details.
757
[1478]758    - 1.19alpha9 :
759
[1482]760        - pkpgcounter is now just a wrapper around the PDLAnalyzer class
761
[1480]762        - pykotaOptions LDAP attribute now accepts non-ascii characters
763          too.
764
[1478]765        - First try at cupspykota main loop rewrite
766
[1475]767    - 1.19alpha8 :
768
769        - 'querying' accounting method is now called 'hardware'
770
771        - 'external' accounting method is now called 'software'
772
773        - 'stupid' accounting method doesn't exist anymore
774
775        - 'snmp' requester doesn't exist anymore
776
777        - code simplifications in external requester
778
[1473]779    - 1.19alpha7 :
780
781        - Database schema change (both LDAP and PostgreSQL) to
782          allow storage of the job-originating-hostname attribute.
783          An SQL upgrade script is present. The code is not yet
784          capable of setting/retrieving this attribute. Support
785          for this functionnality will be added in the future.
786
[1463]787    - 1.19alpha6 :
788
[1471]789        - problems connecting to SMTP servers are now catched.
790
[1463]791        - pykotme now uses pkpgcounter to compute the size of the
792          job. This modification adds PCL5 and soon PCLXL (PCL6)
793          support. You can now get quotes for PCL in addition to
794          PostScript.
795
[1464]796        - pkpgcounter now includes first try at PCLXL parser.
797          It is currently disabled until it's finished.
798
[1451]799    - 1.19alpha5 :
800
[1458]801        - cupspykota polling loop fix for MacOSX (at least)
802
[1459]803        - logging subsystem now logs PID too, to ease diagnosing
804          problems under heavy load.
805
[1456]806        - pkpgcounter enhancements.
807
[1453]808        - pkprinters --skipexisting now tells pkprinters to not
809          modify existing printers when --add is used.
810          pkprinters logs a warning message whenever --add is
811          used and a printer already exists.
[1451]812
[1455]813        - LDAP schema now allows accented chars in pykotaFileName
814          and pykotaTitle attributes.
815
[1447]816    - 1.19alpha4 :
817
818        - a bad copy&paste prevented pkpgcounter to work at all, this
819          is now fixed.
820
[1451]821        - improved PCL support in pkpgcounter, with the use of
822          HP PCL/PJL Reference Set
823          PCL5 Printer Language Technical Quick Reference Guide
[1449]824
825        - pkpgcounter now uses mmap to speed things up : duration
[1450]826          is halved with the sample 87 pages PCL document I use for
827          testing.
[1448]828
[1437]829    - 1.19alpha3 :
830
831        - pkprinters now accepts the --list command line argument
832          to list informations about printers.
833
[1430]834    - 1.19alpha2 :
835
836        - pkpgcounter is now included as a smart external
837          accounter which can handle both PostScript and PCL.
838
[1417]839    - 1.19alpha1 :
840
[1421]841        - PYKOTALIMITBY environment variable is now exported too.
842
[1417]843        - Inclusion of Michele Baldessari's work on autotools.
844
[1415]845    - 1.18 :
846
847        - Improved documentation
848
[1411]849    - 1.18beta2 :
850
851        - Fix for raw jobs with cupspykota
852
[1404]853    - 1.18beta :
854
[1405]855        - Small fix for new waitprinter.sh script
856
[1404]857        - Better tracebacks on error conditions
858
859        - Improved translations
860
861        - Improved documentation
862
[1396]863    - 1.18alpha15 :
[1398]864
865        - waitprinter.sh replaced by a new and possibly faster
[1404]866          and more powerful one.
[1396]867
868        - Names can now begin with a digit.
869
[1398]870        - Stability improvement for quotas set on printers groups.
[1396]871
[1381]872    - 1.18alpha14 :
873
[1384]874        - Catches more (all ?) problems with SMTP servers instead
875          of breaking.
876
[1381]877        - Italian translation added.
878
[1376]879    - 1.18alpha13 :
880
881        - Pre and Post hooks are now available in the pykota
882          filter as well.
883
884        - The pykota filter doesn't check last user's quota
[1377]885          anymore when delayed hardware accounting is used :
886          this will be done anyway the next time the last
887          user will print again. This saves some database
888          queries which are unneeded.
[1376]889
[1372]890    - 1.18alpha12 :
891
[1376]892        - Pre and Post hooks to external commands with many
[1372]893          many environment variables available are useable
894          from the cupspykota backend.
895          See sample configuration file for details and help.
896
[1368]897    - 1.18alpha11 :
898
899        - Hopefully final fix wrt groups (users and printers)
900
[1365]901    - 1.18alpha10 :
902
903        - Fixed nested printer groups accounting.
904
905        - Fixed user groups + printer groups problem.
906
[1360]907    - 1.18alpha9 :
908
[1363]909        - Fix for LDAP problem when job price was 0.
910

1130        - Job price added to job history, to keep accounting correct
1131          if a printer price per page or per job is modified and the
1132          history is not reset : the history would have given a false
1133          amount of money charged before the printer's prices were
1134          modified, this addition solves the problem.
1135
[1200]1136    - 1.16alpha11 :

1171
1172        - From now on, the use of the pykota filter with CUPS
1173          is deprecated. The pykota filter still has to be
1174          used with LPRng though.
1175
[1179]1176    - 1.16alpha6 :
1177
1178        - Bug fixed : when edpykota was used to add a printer

[1178]1182    - 1.16alpha5 :
1183
1184        - New CUPS backend supports device enumeration !
1185          This means that NO manual CUPS configuration has to
1186          be done. All can now be done from CUPS web interface.

[1177]1188    - 1.16alpha4 :
1189

1220          They have to be created manually before.
1221          Look at sample configuration file for examples.
1222
[1149]1223    - 1.15alpha8 :
1224
1225        - Job history can be disabled if needed.
1226          This feature may be useful for people who use the LDAP
1227          backend and don't want their LDAP tree to grow out of
1228          control.
1229
[1138]1230    - 1.15alpha7 :

[1121]1247    - 1.15alpha3 :
1248
1249        - CGI script now tries to restrict view when the
1250          REMOTE_USER environment variable is set. This allows
1251          people to protect its use with .htaccess files.
1252          When unprotected, or if REMOTE_USER is 'root', then
1253          unrestricted access is granted.
[1122]1254          NB : REMOTE_USER is automatically set by the web server
1255          (e.g. Apache) when a page with restricted access is viewed.
[1121]1256
[1116]1257    - 1.15alpha2 :

1266
[1113]1267    - 1.14 :
1268
1269        - The PostgreSQL database connection is now always closed before
1270          exit. The LDAP database connection too, but it didn't suffer
1271          from the problem anyway, AFAICT.
1272
[1111]1273    - 1.14beta2 :
1274
1275        - An LDAP-specific configuration field was introduced, usermail.

1277          address for the user. See sample configuration file for
1278          details.
1279
[1105]1280    - 1.14beta :
1281
1282        - Two new LDAP-specific configuration fields were introduced,
1283          newuser and newgroup. Use them to specify if you want to add
1284          quota information to existing entries or elsewhere.
1285          See sample configuration file for details.
1286
[1099]1287    - 1.14alpha9 :
1288

1299          asking for their internal page counter.
1300          See sample configuration file for details.
1301
[1089]1302    - 1.14alpha7 :
1303
1304        - edpykota now doesn't check if the user/group is above
1305          quota. The check is only done at print time. This
1306          prevents the sending of email messages when creating
1307          user quotas if quota is already reached at creation
1308          time.
1309
[1087]1310    - 1.14alpha6 :
1311

1315          Don't forget to :
1316
1317                $ chmod 640 /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf
1318
1319        - storageuser and storageuserpw configuration fields reintroduced
1320          for the same reason.

1323          support in the PostgreSQL and LDAP backends.
1324
[1085]1325    - 1.14alpha5 :

1330
1331        - When adding an user, the user itself and its account balance
1332          are now added in the same LDAP entry. Before they were added
1333          as two different LDAP entries.
1334
[1079]1335    - 1.14alpha3 :
1336

[1057]1377    - 1.11 :
1378
1379        - Now includes the pykotme command line tool, to produce
1380          printing quotes for users.
1381
[1056]1382    - 1.10 :
1383
1384        - Bug fixed wrt quota reports when print limiting is by
1385          account balance.
1386
[1052]1387    - 1.09 :
1388
1389        - Translations finalized.
1390
1391        - Manpages updated.
1392
1393        - Installation documentation improved wrt LDAP support.
1394
[1049]1395    - 1.09beta2 :
1396
1397        - The CGI script for quota reports works again, and
1398          is much more powerful.
1399
[1043]1400    - 1.09beta :
1401
1402        - edpykota finalized
1403
[1041]1404    - 1.09alpha2 :
1405
1406        - LDAP schema modified a bit. Please upgrade.
1407
1408        - LDAP backend works !
1409
1410        - repykota and warnpykota allow the root user to pass
1411          users or groups names on the command line. Users
1412          and groups names may contain wildcards.
1413
1414        - repykota and warnpykota only reports or warns the
1415          current user when launched by non-root users.
1416
1417        - Minor bug fixes.
1418
[1029]1419    - 1.09alpha1 :
1420
1421        - More work on LDAP storage backend. Many options
1422          were added to /etc/pykota.conf to give some
1423          hints to the LDAP storage backend.
[1044]1424
1425        - Severe database access optimizations were done by
1426          rewriting most of the Quota Storage backends drivers.
[1029]1427
[1027]1428    - 1.08 :
1429
1430        - Major bug fix wrt LPRng support for remote jobs.
[1029]1431
[1027]1432        - Major bug fix wrt increase/decrease account balances.
1433
[1021]1434    - 1.08alpha8 :
1435
1436        - Code refactoring.
[1029]1437
[1021]1438        - A single user/password pair is used to connect
1439          to the database backend. The storageuser configuration
1440          field, and its associated passwords storageuserpw, are
1441          not used anymore.
[1029]1442
[1022]1443        - You can now set PyKota in debug mode, see sample configuration
1444          file for details.
1445          WARNING : only Quota Storage backend queries are logged in
1446          debug mode, for now.
[1021]1447
[1019]1448    - 1.08alpha7 :
1449
1450        - Very latest LDAP schema.
[1029]1451
[1019]1452        - Code enhancement wrt easy pluggability of PyKota attributes
1453          and object classes into an existing LDAP directory.
1454
[1017]1455    - 1.08alpha6 :
1456
1457        - Minor bug corrections
[1029]1458
[1017]1459        - More work on LDAP : new schema
1460
[1016]1461    - 1.08alpha5 :
1462
[1017]1463        - More good work on LDAP storage.
1464          repykota now works reasonably well with the sample LDAP directory.
[1016]1465
[1014]1466    - 1.08alpha4 :
1467
1468        - LDAP schema included.
1469          THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT THIS.
1470          LDAP SUPPORT DOESN'T WORK YET, AND THE SCHEMA
1471          MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE TELL US
1472          WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS SCHEMA ON THE
1473          MAILING LIST.
1474
[1000]1475    - 1.08alpha3 :
1476
1477        - External accounting methods were partly rewritten :
1478
1479          - No more "broken pipe" should happen.
1480
1481          - They now take care of the number of copies
1482            This may be unneeded though, if the postscript
1483            file already does this, because this would
1484            overcharge users (number of copies counted
1485            two times). NEEDS MORE TESTING.
1486
1487          - The sample configuration file now contains
1488            an external accounting method example which should
1489            work with all DSC compliant Postscript files.
1490
1491        - Some small bugs were fixed.
1492
[998]1493    - 1.08alpha2 :
1494
1495        - Now works with net-snmp v5.0 and above.
1496          It already worked, but the sample configuration
[1000]1497          file didn't contain appropriate values...
[998]1498
[991]1499    - 1.07 : Release of the Shame !
1500
1501        - The external accounting methods driver was left out of
1502          the CVS tree. Nobody could use it since it wasn't included !
1503
[989]1504    - 1.06 :
1505
1506        - Severe bug fixed : if you had a printer in
1507          power saving state which couldn't answer immediately,
1508          a bug was triggered.
1509          It was caused by a bad copy/paste which
1510          forgot to import a Python module at run time.
1511
[980]1512    - 1.05 :
1513
1514        - External accounters are finally available !
1515          This means that you can plug any page accounting
1516          method you like by setting the appropriate
1517          'accounter' field in /etc/pykota.conf
1518          See the sample conf/pykota.conf.sample to
1519          learn how to do.
1520
1521          NB : Both 'external' and 'stupid' accounting methods
1522               account a job size just before *this* job is
1523               sent to the printer.
1524               The original 'querying' method accounts a job
1525               size just before *the next* job is sent to
1526               the printer.
1527
[976]1528    - 1.05alpha3 :
1529
1530        - A 'stupid' and unreliable accounting method was
1531          implemented to serve as an example on how to
1532          do this sort of things. This method only counts
1533          the 'showpage' statements in the input data.
1534          See sample configuration file for details.
1535          Pluggable accounting methods work, but I advise
1536          you TO NOT USE THIS ONE WHICH IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.
1537          It is not reliable enough to be used.
[978]1538          Use the 'querying' accounting method instead.
[976]1539
[973]1540    - 1.05alpha2 :
1541
1542        - Pluggable accounting methods.
1543
[975]1544        - Better error handling.
1545
[962]1546    - 1.05alpha1 :
1547
[969]1548        - SECURITY file added to help improve PyKota's security.
1549
[962]1550        - Extracting the printer's internal page counter is now
1551          tried several times, waiting several seconds between
1552          two tries. This lets the time to warm up for some printers
1553          which don't answer when they are sleeping (my Apple
1554          LaserWriter 16/600 PS is in this case, maybe others too)
1555
[970]1556        - Small display bug fixed in repykota
1557
[960]1558    - 1.04 :
[956]1559
1560        - Default print policy for users/groups unknown from
1561          the print quota system is now DENY instead of ALLOW,
1562          since ALLOW can generate inaccurate results
1563          (incorrect job sizes charged to the wrong persons)
1564
[954]1565        - LPRng support works !
1566
[953]1567        - A bug was introduced some time ago wrt printers' default
1568          policy for unknown users. It is now corrected.
1569
[950]1570        - repykota now displays prices per job and per page for each
1571          printer, if they are defined.
1572
[947]1573        - Minor display bug fixed in repykota.
1574
1575        - Problem when running repykota with an empty database was fixed.
1576
[942]1577    - 1.03 :
1578
1579        - Upgrade script included for earlier versions.
1580          Please look inside the initscripts subdirectory.
[965]1581          THE DATABASE SCHEMA HAS CHANGED, PLEASE UPGRADE.
[942]1582
[932]1583        - repykota now reports account balances too.
[929]1584
[932]1585        - PyKota now has a nice logo, see the logos
1586          subdirectory.
1587
[936]1588        - Manual pages were finally updated.
1589
[927]1590        - Group quotas seem to work now !
1591
[910]1592        - The new database schema allows to keep an history of all
1593          jobs as well as charge users per page and/or per job,
1594          and track users' account balance.
1595
[917]1596        - edpykota now accepts much more command line options to
1597          use the new functionnalities. See edpykota --help for
1598          details.
1599
[885]1600        - The installation script now allows to install the sample
1601          configuration file during first installation.
[892]1602
1603        - More group quota code works, but still not finished.
[885]1604
[894]1605        - The CGI script displays a link to PyKota's website.
1606
[899]1607        - The job history is now kept, this will allow per-period
1608          reports in the future.
[900]1609
1610        - After having modified the quota for an user with edpykota,
1611          a quota check is done to eventually warn the user/admin about
1612          a quota which is too low to print.
1613
[901]1614        - A workaround is provided for HP Printers : their internal
1615          page counter is only saved to NVRAM in a 10 increment, so
1616          if you switch them off and then on, the reported page counter
1617          may be lower than the real number of pages printed.
1618          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[909]1619          We unconditionnally set the last job's page count to
1620          abs(int((10 - abs(lastcounter(snmp) - lastcounter(storage)) / 2))
1621          in this case.
[908]1622          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
1623          off.
[901]1624
1625        - A fix is provided for printers which only have a volatile
1626          page counter (reset to 0 every time you switch the printer on)
[908]1627          This should allow PyKota to work reasonably fine with HP Laserjet
1628          4L/5L/6L, not perfect, but better than nothing.
[901]1629          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[908]1630          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
[925]1631          off. This is untested, please report any problem.
[901]1632
[907]1633        - A bug was fixed when edpykota --add was used with users who already
1634          had a quota on the specified printer.
1635
[913]1636        - A small display bug in repykota was introduced in preliminary
1637          1.03 versions, and fixed later on.
[915]1638
1639        - Some minor bugs which happened in rare situations were fixed.
[913]1640
[919]1641        - Support for AppleTalk printers was added, see sample configuration
1642          file for details.
[925]1643
1644        - Users and group printing can now be controlled (limited) either by
1645          print quota or by account balance.
[919]1646
[877]1647    - 1.02 :
[859]1648
[871]1649        - The installation script now checks for software availability
1650          and in case a software is missing asks the user if he
1651          wants to continue with the installation or abort it.
1652
[872]1653        - The configuration file pykota.conf is now expected to be
1654          found in /etc instead of in /etc/cups
1655          The installation script prompts the user to see if he
1656          wants to move an old configuration file to the new location
1657          if needed.
1658
[859]1659        - Improved documentation.
1660
1661        - You can now set the tcp/ip port on which the Quota Storage
1662          Server is listening, see sample configuration file for details.
1663
[872]1664        - Better general error handling.
[859]1665
[875]1666        - Upgrade script for pre 1.01 PostgreSQL database schema is now
1667          included as well.
1668
[852]1669    - 1.01 :
1670
1671        - The configuration file now accepts an option
1672          to choose the recipient(s) of the email messages :
1673
1674            - DevNull means no one will receive them.
1675            - User means only the user will receive them.
1676            - Admin means only the admin will receive them.
1677            - Both means the User and the Admin will receive them.
1678
[853]1679        - The configuration file now uses hard-coded default values
1680          when an option is not set. See sample configuration file
1681          for details.
1682
[852]1683        - Manual pages are included since 1.00, but I forgot to
1684          add this information to this file.
1685
[855]1686        - Redistribution terms for the official package have
1687          softened and are now fully GPL compatible :
1688          unrestricted modification is now allowed even for
1689          the version number.
1690
[846]1691    - 1.00 :
1692
1693        - edpykota now accepts a --noquota option. This
1694          disable quota checking while still doing page
1695          accounting. This is really useful for people
1696          who don't want to limit their users but want
1697          to know how much pages they print.
1698
1699        - Some untested scripts were added to retrieve
1700          the life time page counter of non-SNMP printers.
1701
1702        - Every directory now has a specific README file.
1703
[833]1704    - 0.99 :
1705
1706        - Under some circumstances while the user wasn't allowed
1707          to print, he didn't receive any email message. It is
1708          now fixed.
1709
1710        - When an user wasn't allowed to print, the quota for
[835]1711          the previous user wasn't updated. This is now fixed.
[833]1712
[827]1713    - 0.98 :
1714
1715        - Correctly handle the case where the printer is switched off.
1716
[828]1717        - Small bug wrt syslog fixed.
1718
[819]1719    - 0.97 :
1720
1721        - edpykota accepts wildcards on its command line for users/groups too
1722          if the --add option is not set, e.g. :
1723
1724              $ edpykota --printer lp --softlimit 50 --hardlimit 100 "jer*"
1725
[821]1726        - If no user name is passed at all, then a default wildcard of "*"
[819]1727          which means apply the command on ALL users for this printer is used.
1728
1729        - Small bug fixes.
1730
[803]1731    - 0.96 :
1732
[808]1733        - Options requester, policy, admin, adminmail and gracedelay can now
[807]1734          be set either globally or per printer. The printer option has
1735          priority if both are defined.
[803]1736
[807]1737        - More powerful configuration parser.
1738
1739        - If all options are defined globally, there's no need to
1740          define a section for each printer in the configuration
1741          file anymore. Just define a [global] section and it's ok.
[803]1742
[797]1743    - 0.95 :
1744
[798]1745        - External requesters for printers finally added.
[797]1746
1747        - Full internationalization (english and french are supported)
1748
1749        - More complete quota usage report
1750
1751        - CGI script to access to the quota usage report
1752
1753        - Several bugs fixed.
1754
1755
1756    - 0.9 :
1757
1758        - First public version
