22PyKota NEWS :
23
[1868]24    - 1.20beta :
25
[1875]26        - For urgent legal reasons, a "privacy" directive has been added
27          to pykota.conf, to hide jobs' title, filename and options
28          in the history.
29
[1868]30        - Minor changes in the debian directory.
31
[1867]32    - 1.20alpha27 :
33
34        - Fixed many problems with translation files. In particular
35          the brasilian portuguese translation file was incorrectly
36          installed into the french "breton" locale directory.
37
38        - Finished French translation.
39
[1847]40    - 1.20alpha26 :
41
[1850]42        - LPRng support code should now better detect network
43          printers' hostnames or IP addresses.
44
[1848]45        - Fix for recently introduced bug in LPRng support.
46
[1847]47        - Fix for incorrect locale setting when starting.
48
[1814]49    - 1.20alpha25 :
50
[1821]51        - pkprinters allows --list to normal users, but require user
52          to be a PyKota administrator when another command line
53          option is used.
54
[1814]55        - pkhint doesn't use absolute path to search for helper commands
56          anymore.
57
58        - Spanish translation ready for 1.20.
59
[1806]60    - 1.20alpha24 :
61
[1807]62        - Now warnpykota only warns users limited by balance once.
63
[1806]64        - Now warnpykota only warns users who have ever printed,
65          to not cause confusion to users who have just opened
66          their account.
67
68        - Prepared help messages for translations.
69

83
84        - Now dumpykota refuses to launch if the current user is not
85          a PyKota administrator (a PyKota administrator is an user
86          allowed to read the pykotadmin.conf file).
87
88        - Now any PyKota administrator can use repykota and warnpykota
89          with additionnal arguments, not only the root user.
90
91        - Improved documentation a bit.
92
[1771]93    - 1.20alpha20 :

108
[1761]109        - The description, filename, title, and options fields
110          are now stored as UTF-8 strings in both LDAP and PostgreSQL.
111          Proper charset is used during extraction from the database.
112
[1757]113    - 1.20alpha18 :
114
[1758]115        - Experimental autopykota command to initialize user
116          account and quota entries on first print while not
117          resetting the balance value if not needed.
118
[1757]119        - Added the new "winbind_separator" directive to strip
120          out the Samba/Winbind domain name while printing if
121          needed (Off by default).
122
[1751]123    - 1.20alpha17 :

129
[1746]130    - 1.20alpha16 :
131
132        - Internal handling of socket based PJL queries over
133          port tcp/9100 is now available with the magic
134          'pjl' value in the hardware accounter.
135
[1742]136    - 1.20alpha15 :
137
138        - LDAP pykotaAccountBalance objects were always created
139          attached to the pykotaUser objects. This is now
140          fixed and the value of balancebase in pykota.conf
141          is now correctly used.
142
[1740]143    - 1.20alpha14 :
144
[1741]145        - Belgian translations added (copy of the french ones).
146
[1740]147        - External hardware accounter now loops until
148          a result can be read correctly.
149
150        - pkhint now suggest the internal snmp handling instead
151          of the external one.
152
[1729]153    - 1.20alpha13 :
154
155        - Hardware accounter now accepts the special
156          'snmp' value, meaning ALL is done from main code
157          without launching any subprocess.
158          You need the http://pysnmp.sf.net Python module
159          for this to work (tested with v3.4.2)
160
[1731]161        - Increased delay between two loops iterations
162          to 2 seconds in waitprinter.sh to diminish
163          CPU load.
164
[1723]165    - 1.20alpha12 :
166
167        - waitprinter.sh rewritten from scratch to wait
168          for printer status stabilization.
169
[1717]170    - 1.20alpha11 :
171
172        - Generic data dumper 'dumpykota' introduced.
173          Works only with PostgreSQL backend for now.
174

187          supported.
188
[1699]189    - 1.20alpha7 :
190
191        - First draft of PCL3GUI (Deskjet 640C for example) analyzer.
192          Needs more work, but no documentation is available.
193
[1692]194    - 1.20alpha6 :
195
[1697]196        - Improved mailandpopup.sh script.
197
[1696]198        - Small fixes for LPRng.
[1695]199
[1694]200        - Now exports PYKOTAPRINTERHOSTNAME for network printers'
201          hostname or IP address. Set to 'localhost' when not
202          meaningful.
203
[1693]204        - Fixed issue with how mod_auth_ldap Apache modules
205          fills the REMOTE_USER environment variable.
206
[1692]207        - Fixed a bug in LDAP user deletion code.
208
[1687]209    - 1.20alpha5 :
210
211        - Introduces the new configuration directive 'onaccountererror'
212          to specify what must be done whenever the software or
213          hardware accounter fails. Allowed values are 'continue' and
214          'stop' (default).
215
216        - Minor fix in software accounter for a recently introduced
217          problem.
218
[1686]219    - 1.20alpha4 :
220
221        - Added support for more ghostscript devices in ESC/P2
222          analyzer : stcolor, st800, escp, escpc are now supported.
223
[1680]224    - 1.20alpha3 :
225
[1683]226        - Small improvement in PostScript parser to avoid being
227          fooled by a change in number of copies :
228          The user can't ask for 200 copies of page 1 and 1 copy
229          of page 2 to fool PyKota anymore :
230          this would have been accounted for as 1 copy only, but
231          now the maximum value seen is used.
232
[1681]233        - Relax checks for PCL5 header to accomodate some strange
234          printer drivers.
235
[1680]236        - Now hardware accounting method works like software
237          accounting method wrt the subprocess' output.
238
[1681]239        - Hardware and Software accounting stop the print queue
240          when the accounting subprocess didn't work. This will
241          be configurable in the near future.
242
[1676]243    - 1.20alpha2 :
244
[1678]245        - Now software accounting method reads accounter's
246          answer until a line with a single integer is
247          obtained or until all of its output has been read.
248          This should fix the problem some people have
249          when strange locale related messages are sent
250          when running subprocesses (Solaris only ?).
251
[1676]252        - First version of ESC/P2 analyzer. Seems to work
253          ok at least with 'epson', 'epsonc', 'eps9mid'
254          and 'esp9high' ghostscript devices. Needs more
255          work to correctly analyze other devices.
256
[1665]257    - 1.20alpha1 :
258
[1675]259        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCLXL parser.
260
[1674]261        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCL5 parser,
262          when number of copies was set outside of and before first
263          page.
264
[1673]265        - Added workaround for number of copies directly set in
266          PostScript code.
267
[1671]268        - Added german translation.
269
[1665]270        - Fixed problem on first print for user group quota when
271          "enforcement: strict" is used.
272
273        - Fixed interpolation problem in french translation.
274
[1664]275    - 1.19 :
276
277        - Updated existing translations.
278
279        - Added final Thai and Greek translations.
280
281        - Minor last minute bug fixes.
282
[1629]283    - 1.19beta :
284
285        - LPRng support for both software and hardware accounting seems
286          to be OK.
287
288        - Translation files fixed because of fuzzy matching problem.
289
[1639]290        - Fixed path to Swedish translation: 'sv' instead of 'se'.
[1633]291
[1639]292        - Added first draft of Thai translation.
293
294        - Fixed some minor bugs with Pychecker.
295
[1622]296    - 1.19alpha35 :
297
298        - Generic PDL analyzer now supports Binary PostScript documents
299          in addition to DSC compliant ones.
300
[1611]301    - 1.19alpha34 :
302
303        - LPRng support : software accounting seems to work fine,
304          but hardware accounting doesn't work yet.
305
[1605]306    - 1.19alpha33 :
307
308        - pykosd now accepts command line arguments. Enjoy !
309          NB : due to a bug in xosd, you need xosd version 2.2.8
310          or higher if you don't use the default C locale.
311
[1600]312    - 1.19alpha32 :
313
[1604]314        - Early (not working) version of the LPRng support rewrite.
[1600]315
[1604]316        - Saner default configuration file.
317
[1599]318    - 1.19alpha31 :
319
320        - Fixed a double Python2.1 incompatibility with newer versions,
321          which prevented the PCL5 and the PCLXL parsers to work with
322          this older version of Python.
323
[1592]324    - 1.19alpha30 :
325
[1595]326        - Introduction of preliminary version of the pykosd command
327
[1593]328        - Usernames, Groupnames and Printernames can now contain
329          ANY character, expected '/' and '@'.
330
[1592]331        - Integrated most of the Debian work from Sergio
332          Gonzz Gonzz
333
[1584]334    - 1.19alpha29 :
335
[1591]336        - PCLXL parser should now correctly handle number of
337          copies set for each page.
338
[1588]339        - Added testsuite for generic PDL analyzer.
340
341        - Typo fixed in PCLXL parser.
342
[1584]343        - Correctly dispatches error messages depending on the
344          situation : tools which can be run interactively will
345          ALWAYS output their logs to stderr, excepted for
346          their DEBUG messages, for which the "logger:"
347          directive as set in pykota.conf will be honored.
348          Tools which can't be run interactively will ALWAYS
349          honor the "logger:" directive as set in pykota.conf
350
[1575]351    - 1.19alpha28 :
352
[1582]353        - The description field for printers can now be set,
354          and is displayed in reports.
355
356        - Fixed a small problem in SQL backend code.
357
[1578]358        - Improved pkhint
359
[1575]360        - First working PCL6 (aka PCLXL) parser !
361          Doesn't handle copies yet.
362
[1570]363    - 1.19alpha27 :
364
[1573]365        - Additionnal 10% speed increase in PCL5 parser for GhostScript
366          generated files (untested yet with other PCL files).
367
[1572]368        - Reintroduced the use of mmap in PCL5 parser : this speedups
369          PCL5 parsing by almost 4 times.
370          This 4x with the 3x below give us in fact a twelvefold increase
371          in performance for PCL5 parsing !
372
[1570]373        - The Python accelerator Psyco is now used if available
374          in the generic PDL parser : it speedups PCL5 parsing by
[1572]375          almost three times automagically.
[1570]376
[1564]377    - 1.19alpha26 :
378
379        - Fixed PCL5 parser according to the sources of rastertohp.
380
[1566]381        - Fixed number of copies handling in PCL5 parser : the number
382          of copies could vary from page to page.
[1568]383
384        - Added more debug information to PCLXL parser.
[1566]385
[1556]386    - 1.19alpha25 :
387
[1558]388        - Added new "description" field to printers in both
[1556]389          PostgreSQL and LDAP. No code to handle this yet.
390
[1558]391        - Reversed the fix for power save mode in printers :
[1557]392          no paper or tray open would have caused people to
393          be undercharged.
394
[1558]395        - Preliminary version of MySQL initialization script.
396
[1552]397    - 1.19alpha24 :
398
399        - Native PDF parsing code now works perfectly with
400          Python 2.1 and above, and is way faster than before.
401          GhostScript is not used anymore to convert PDF to PS,
402          because PDF is parsed directly.
403
[1545]404    - 1.19alpha23 :
405
[1549]406        - Fixed waitprinter.sh wrt PowerSave mode and some
407          printers. Thanks to Ryan Suarez.
408
[1550]409        - Smart PDL analyzer now recognizes PDF too : two
410          PDF parsing methods are used : a native one which
411          is very fast but requires Python 2.3 or above, and
412          a slower one which uses Ghostscript. PyKota detects
413          automatically which method to use depending on your
414          version of Python.
[1547]415
[1546]416        - All tracebacks now include PyKota's version number.
[1545]417
[1542]418    - 1.19alpha22 :
419
[1544]420        - Ensures that the file pointer for job's data is
421          reset to the start of the job's datas after the
422          job's size pre-computation phase.
423
[1543]424        - Improved PostScript detection code for bad drivers
425          which don't correctly switch languages between PJL
426          and PS.
427
[1542]428        - Even better debugging code.
429
[1541]430    - 1.19alpha21 :
431
[1542]432        - Additionnal check.
[1541]433
[1536]434    - 1.19alpha20 :
435
436        - More complete logging messages wrt accounters.
437
[1539]438        - Now catches early failures occuring when the configuration
439          files are parsed.
440
[1526]441    - 1.19alpha19 :
442
443        - Fixed over-verbose exits when displaying help
444          or version.
[1527]445
446        - Extended some PATH in the shell scripts
[1532]447
448        - Deleting an user now also deletes his payments history.
449
450        - Doesn't explicitely ignore SIGCHLD anymore. This seems to
451          cause problems.
[1500]452
[1522]453    - 1.19alpha18 :
454
455        - History of payments is now stored in the database, and
456          updated each time an user's balance is modified with
457          edpykota --balance. This history represents each time
458          the user was given some positive or negative credit,
459          but doesn't reflect price paid for jobs, which appear
460          in the jobs history instead.
461
[1524]462        - Jobs history web reports now include the job's size in
463          bytes. Also columns were reordered to render the report
464          more easily readable.
465
[1517]466    - 1.19alpha17 :
467
468        - Mysterious bug (program exited unexpectedly without leaving
469          any log message) which occured once in a while when
470          cancelling jobs should be fixed now.
471
472        - New 'crashrecipient' directive. Disabled by
473          default. See sample configuration file to see how
474          to activate it. It is suggested that you activate it.
475
476        - New PYKOTAJOBSIZEBYTES environment variable exported,
[1519]477          which contains the job's size in bytes. Empty jobs
[1521]478          are now denied. This value is now stored in the job
479          history (but not yet displayed from the web interface)
[1517]480
[1521]481        - Preliminary work on payments storage : the PostgreSQL
482          and LDAP schemas should be OK now, but no code is written
483          yet to support this functionnality.
484
[1502]485    - 1.19alpha16 :
486
[1510]487        - the newuser and newgroup LDAP specific directives now accept
488          a second parameter to attach(), "fail" or "warn". If no entry
489          is found to attach PyKota attributes to, and "fail" was used,
490          then action is aborted and program exits in error. If "warn"
491          is used, a new entry is created but a warning message is logged.
492
[1502]493        - The job's originating hostname is now stored in the database,
494          and exported as PYKOTAJOBORIGINATINGHOSTNAME in the environment.
495
[1500]496    - 1.19alpha15 :
497
498        - The old pykota filter is now removed. This means that
499          currently PyKota doesn't support LPRng anymore, but
500          LPRng support will be re-added, improved, in the near future.
501
[1495]502    - 1.19alpha14 :
503
[1499]504        - PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBSIZE and PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBPRICE
505          are now exported as environment variables.
506
[1498]507        - Heavy CPU usage is now completely fixed it seems, by
508          introducing some 0.01 second sleeping when nothing to do.
509
[1497]510        - Pre-computation of the job's size is now only
511          done when enforcement is "STRICT", this saves
512          CPU for people who don't want to use this new
513          feature.
514
[1495]515        - New 'enforcement' directive which accepts either
516          STRICT or LAXIST. See sample configuration file
517          for details.
518
[1494]519    - 1.19alpha13 :
520
521        - Get back to an old version of the polling loop which
522          worked fine, but non-optimally. Will be optimized
523          as time permits.
524
[1492]525    - 1.19alpha12 :
526
527        - Job's size is now precomputed unconditionnally using
528          the generic PDL analyzer.
529          NB : This value is not yet used to pre-allow/deny the
530          job.
531
[1490]532    - 1.19alpha11 :
533
534        - The pykota filter is now completely deprecated and
535          can't be used anymore. LPRng users MUST download
536          an older version of PyKota. CUPS users MUST use
537          cupspykota. Better support for LPRng will come
538          in the near future.
539
[1483]540    - 1.19alpha10 :
541
[1488]542        - pykotme now uses generic PDL Analyzer directly instead
543          of spawning a new process.
544
[1487]545        - Improvements to generic PDL Analyzer.
546
[1485]547        - 25% Speedup in PCL parser. Getting more of the Python version
548          will probably be difficult, since the completely table driven
549          parser I wrote is slower than the original algorithm. Then,
550          the original algorithm is still used for now.
551          Probable that more speed could be achieved using mmap, at the
552          expense of severe memory consumption.
553
[1483]554        - configuration simplifications : the "accounter" directive's
555          'hardware' arguments now accepts what was in the "requester"
556          directive as it's content. The "requester" directive is not
557          supported anymore. See sample configuration file for details.
558
[1478]559    - 1.19alpha9 :
560
[1482]561        - pkpgcounter is now just a wrapper around the PDLAnalyzer class
562
[1480]563        - pykotaOptions LDAP attribute now accepts non-ascii characters
564          too.
565
[1478]566        - First try at cupspykota main loop rewrite
567
[1475]568    - 1.19alpha8 :
569
570        - 'querying' accounting method is now called 'hardware'
571
572        - 'external' accounting method is now called 'software'
573
574        - 'stupid' accounting method doesn't exist anymore
575
576        - 'snmp' requester doesn't exist anymore
577
578        - code simplifications in external requester
579
[1473]580    - 1.19alpha7 :
581
582        - Database schema change (both LDAP and PostgreSQL) to
583          allow storage of the job-originating-hostname attribute.
584          An SQL upgrade script is present. The code is not yet
585          capable of setting/retrieving this attribute. Support
586          for this functionnality will be added in the future.
587
[1463]588    - 1.19alpha6 :
589
[1471]590        - problems connecting to SMTP servers are now catched.
591
[1463]592        - pykotme now uses pkpgcounter to compute the size of the
593          job. This modification adds PCL5 and soon PCLXL (PCL6)
594          support. You can now get quotes for PCL in addition to
595          PostScript.
596
[1464]597        - pkpgcounter now includes first try at PCLXL parser.
598          It is currently disabled until it's finished.
599
[1451]600    - 1.19alpha5 :
601
[1458]602        - cupspykota polling loop fix for MacOSX (at least)
603
[1459]604        - logging subsystem now logs PID too, to ease diagnosing
605          problems under heavy load.
606
[1456]607        - pkpgcounter enhancements.
608
[1453]609        - pkprinters --skipexisting now tells pkprinters to not
610          modify existing printers when --add is used.
611          pkprinters logs a warning message whenever --add is
612          used and a printer already exists.
[1451]613
[1455]614        - LDAP schema now allows accented chars in pykotaFileName
615          and pykotaTitle attributes.
616
[1447]617    - 1.19alpha4 :
618
619        - a bad copy&paste prevented pkpgcounter to work at all, this
620          is now fixed.
621
[1451]622        - improved PCL support in pkpgcounter, with the use of
623          HP PCL/PJL Reference Set
624          PCL5 Printer Language Technical Quick Reference Guide
[1449]625
626        - pkpgcounter now uses mmap to speed things up : duration
[1450]627          is halved with the sample 87 pages PCL document I use for
628          testing.
[1448]629
[1437]630    - 1.19alpha3 :
631
632        - pkprinters now accepts the --list command line argument
633          to list informations about printers.
634
[1430]635    - 1.19alpha2 :
636
637        - pkpgcounter is now included as a smart external
638          accounter which can handle both PostScript and PCL.
639
[1417]640    - 1.19alpha1 :
641
[1421]642        - PYKOTALIMITBY environment variable is now exported too.

661
662        - Improved documentation
663
[1396]664    - 1.18alpha15 :

[1381]678        - Italian translation added.
679
[1376]680    - 1.18alpha13 :
681
682        - Pre and Post hooks are now available in the pykota
683          filter as well.
684
685        - The pykota filter doesn't check last user's quota
[1377]686          anymore when delayed hardware accounting is used :
687          this will be done anyway the next time the last
688          user will print again. This saves some database
689          queries which are unneeded.
[1376]690
[1372]691    - 1.18alpha12 :
692
[1376]693        - Pre and Post hooks to external commands with many
[1372]694          many environment variables available are useable
695          from the cupspykota backend.
696          See sample configuration file for details and help.

[1215]922        - If username is an empty string, user root is assumed.
[1220]923
924        - 'postgresql' is not recognized anymore as a storage backend,
925          you have to use 'pgstorage' instead. 'postgresql' used to

931        - Job price added to job history, to keep accounting correct
932          if a printer price per page or per job is modified and the
933          history is not reset : the history would have given a false
934          amount of money charged before the printer's prices were
935          modified, this addition solves the problem.
936
[1200]937    - 1.16alpha11 :
938
939        - Some preliminary modifications to the database structure for
940          PostgreSQL and OpenLDAP. A script to upgrade a PostgreSQL
941          database is now provided. LDAP attributes now support
942          eq, pres and sub indexes.
943
944        - Job history now contains additional informations :
945          number of copies, filename, title and print options.
946
[1194]947    - 1.16alpha10 :
[1196]948
949        - Some modifications done to external policy handling.
950          See sample configuration file for details.
[1194]951
952        - Spanish translation added.
953
[1192]954    - 1.16alpha9 :
955
956        - mailto can be set to external(...) to warn users above
957          quota with any command of your choice (e.g. linpopup).
958          Several parameters are available, see sample configuration
959          file for details.
960
[1189]961    - 1.16alpha8 :
962
[1191]963        - Now cupspykota transmits SIGTERMS to the original
964          backend when the user deletes a job being processed.
965
[1189]966        - The documentation is now licensed under the terms of the
967          GNU GPL too.
968
[1185]969    - 1.16alpha7 :
970
971        - The CUPS backend is now fully functionnal (it seems).
972
973        - From now on, the use of the pykota filter with CUPS
974          is deprecated. The pykota filter still has to be
975          used with LPRng though.
976
[1179]977    - 1.16alpha6 :
978
979        - Bug fixed : when edpykota was used to add a printer
980          with no user or group name, a bad user/group name "*" was
981          added to the database.
982
[1178]983    - 1.16alpha5 :
984
985        - New CUPS backend supports device enumeration !
986          This means that NO manual CUPS configuration has to
987          be done. All can now be done from CUPS web interface.
988
[1177]989    - 1.16alpha4 :
990
991        - New CUPS backend added.
992
[1175]993    - 1.16alpha3 :
994
995        - Minimal FAQ document added.
996
[1172]997    - 1.16alpha2 :
998
999        - CGI script now partially supports browser's language preference
1000
[1170]1001    - 1.16alpha1 :
1002
1003        - Ensures that the LDAP connection is really closed at end.
1004
1005        - More complete error messages in case of LDAP operation failure.
1006
[1168]1007    - 1.15 :
1008
1009        - Documentation improved.
1010
[1156]1011    - 1.15beta :
1012
1013        - Command line tools now accept multiple printer
1014          names or wildcards, separated with commas.
1015
[1152]1016    - 1.15alpha9 :
1017
1018        - External policy can be used to auto-add unknown users
1019          and any other interesting things you may want to do.
1020          WARNING : You can't auto-add printers for now.
1021          They have to be created manually before.
1022          Look at sample configuration file for examples.
1023
[1149]1024    - 1.15alpha8 :
1025
1026        - Job history can be disabled if needed.
1027          This feature may be useful for people who use the LDAP
1028          backend and don't want their LDAP tree to grow out of
1029          control.
1030
[1138]1031    - 1.15alpha7 :
1032
1033        - More work done on caching wrt groups.
1034
[1135]1035    - 1.15alpha6 :
1036
1037        - Performance bottleneck with LDAP solved.
1038
[1130]1039    - 1.15alpha5 :
1040
1041        - Caching mechanism for all database queries.
1042
[1123]1043    - 1.15alpha4 :
1044
1045        - Problem with Python 2.3 fixed. Needs some definitive
1046          modification.
1047
[1121]1048    - 1.15alpha3 :
1049
1050        - CGI script now tries to restrict view when the
1051          REMOTE_USER environment variable is set. This allows
1052          people to protect its use with .htaccess files.
1053          When unprotected, or if REMOTE_USER is 'root', then
1054          unrestricted access is granted.
[1122]1055          NB : REMOTE_USER is automatically set by the web server
1056          (e.g. Apache) when a page with restricted access is viewed.
[1121]1057
[1116]1058    - 1.15alpha2 :
1059
1060        - Better detection of LPRng.
1061
1062        - Outputs a warning if printing system is unknown.
1063
[1115]1064    - 1.15alpha1 :
1065
1066        - Bug fix in SQL code.
1067
[1113]1068    - 1.14 :
1069
1070        - The PostgreSQL database connection is now always closed before
1071          exit. The LDAP database connection too, but it didn't suffer
1072          from the problem anyway, AFAICT.
1073
[1111]1074    - 1.14beta2 :
1075
1076        - An LDAP-specific configuration field was introduced, usermail.
1077          Use it to specify which LDAP attribute contains a valid email
1078          address for the user. See sample configuration file for
1079          details.
1080
[1105]1081    - 1.14beta :
1082
1083        - Two new LDAP-specific configuration fields were introduced,
1084          newuser and newgroup. Use them to specify if you want to add
1085          quota information to existing entries or elsewhere.
1086          See sample configuration file for details.
1087
[1099]1088    - 1.14alpha9 :
1089
1090        - Documentation improved.
1091
1092        - pykotme now also prints the user's account balance value
1093          if the user is registered in the Quota Storage and his
1094          limiting factor is "balance".
1095
[1095]1096    - 1.14alpha8 :
1097
1098        - bin/waitprinter.sh is now included to wait for
1099          SNMP enabled printers to be idle again before
1100          asking for their internal page counter.
1101          See sample configuration file for details.
1102
[1089]1103    - 1.14alpha7 :
1104
1105        - edpykota now doesn't check if the user/group is above
1106          quota. The check is only done at print time. This
1107          prevents the sending of email messages when creating
1108          user quotas if quota is already reached at creation
1109          time.
1110
[1087]1111    - 1.14alpha6 :
1112
1113        - Configuration file split and moved to /etc/pykota/pykota.conf
1114          and /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf to prevent simple users to
1115          have Read/Write access to the Quota Database.
1116          Don't forget to :
1117
1118                $ chmod 640 /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf
1119
1120        - storageuser and storageuserpw configuration fields reintroduced
1121          for the same reason.
1122
1123        - Code cleaning for future implementation of email addresses
1124          support in the PostgreSQL and LDAP backends.
1125
[1085]1126    - 1.14alpha5 :
1127
1128        - Big bug fixed when changing the prices for a printer
1129
[1082]1130    - 1.14alpha4 :
1131
1132        - When adding an user, the user itself and its account balance
1133          are now added in the same LDAP entry. Before they were added
1134          as two different LDAP entries.
1135
[1079]1136    - 1.14alpha3 :
1137
1138        - Email field added to PostgreSQL database. An upgrade script
1139          is included in initscripts/postgresql.
1140
[1078]1141    - 1.14alpha2 :
1142
1143        - Typo fixed when using the --prototype option to edpykota
1144
[1077]1145    - 1.14alpha1 :
1146
1147        - Poor man's treshold included : users with a low account
1148          balance (below 1.0 by default, configurable) are sent
1149          a warning message.
1150
1151        - All warning messages to users are now configurable.
1152          NB : Warning messages to the administrator are not.
1153
[1068]1154    - 1.13 :
1155
[1072]1156        - Some small fixes wrt group handling.
1157
[1068]1158        - The whole module code was passed through PyChecker and
1159          several small code inconsistencies were fixed,
1160          as well as a bug in the groups code.
1161
[1067]1162    - 1.13alpha1 :
1163
1164        - Bug fix wrt LDAP.
1165
[1065]1166    - 1.12 :
1167
1168        - More complete test added in edpykota.
1169
[1062]1170    - 1.12alpha2 :
1171
1172        - The previous bug fix was incomplete. This is corrected.
1173
[1061]1174    - 1.12alpha1 :
1175
1176        - Small bug fix.
1177
[1057]1178    - 1.11 :
1179
1180        - Now includes the pykotme command line tool, to produce
1181          printing quotes for users.
1182
[1056]1183    - 1.10 :
1184
1185        - Bug fixed wrt quota reports when print limiting is by
1186          account balance.
1187
[1052]1188    - 1.09 :
1189
1190        - Translations finalized.
1191
1192        - Manpages updated.
1193
1194        - Installation documentation improved wrt LDAP support.
1195
[1049]1196    - 1.09beta2 :
1197
1198        - The CGI script for quota reports works again, and
1199          is much more powerful.
1200
[1043]1201    - 1.09beta :
1202
1203        - edpykota finalized
1204
[1041]1205    - 1.09alpha2 :
1206
1207        - LDAP schema modified a bit. Please upgrade.
1208
1209        - LDAP backend works !
1210
1211        - repykota and warnpykota allow the root user to pass
1212          users or groups names on the command line. Users
1213          and groups names may contain wildcards.
1214
1215        - repykota and warnpykota only reports or warns the
1216          current user when launched by non-root users.
1217
1218        - Minor bug fixes.
1219
[1029]1220    - 1.09alpha1 :
1221
1222        - More work on LDAP storage backend. Many options
1223          were added to /etc/pykota.conf to give some
1224          hints to the LDAP storage backend.
[1044]1225
1226        - Severe database access optimizations were done by
1227          rewriting most of the Quota Storage backends drivers.
[1029]1228
[1027]1229    - 1.08 :
1230
1231        - Major bug fix wrt LPRng support for remote jobs.
[1029]1232
[1027]1233        - Major bug fix wrt increase/decrease account balances.
1234
[1021]1235    - 1.08alpha8 :
1236
1237        - Code refactoring.
[1029]1238
[1021]1239        - A single user/password pair is used to connect
1240          to the database backend. The storageuser configuration
1241          field, and its associated passwords storageuserpw, are
1242          not used anymore.
[1029]1243
[1022]1244        - You can now set PyKota in debug mode, see sample configuration
1245          file for details.
1246          WARNING : only Quota Storage backend queries are logged in
1247          debug mode, for now.
[1021]1248
[1019]1249    - 1.08alpha7 :
1250
1251        - Very latest LDAP schema.
[1029]1252
[1019]1253        - Code enhancement wrt easy pluggability of PyKota attributes
1254          and object classes into an existing LDAP directory.
1255
[1017]1256    - 1.08alpha6 :
1257
1258        - Minor bug corrections
[1029]1259
[1017]1260        - More work on LDAP : new schema
1261
[1016]1262    - 1.08alpha5 :
1263
[1017]1264        - More good work on LDAP storage.
1265          repykota now works reasonably well with the sample LDAP directory.
[1016]1266
[1014]1267    - 1.08alpha4 :
1268
1269        - LDAP schema included.
1270          THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT THIS.
1271          LDAP SUPPORT DOESN'T WORK YET, AND THE SCHEMA
1272          MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE TELL US
1273          WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS SCHEMA ON THE
1274          MAILING LIST.
1275
[1000]1276    - 1.08alpha3 :
1277
1278        - External accounting methods were partly rewritten :
1279
1280          - No more "broken pipe" should happen.
1281
1282          - They now take care of the number of copies
1283            This may be unneeded though, if the postscript
1284            file already does this, because this would
1285            overcharge users (number of copies counted
1286            two times). NEEDS MORE TESTING.
1287
1288          - The sample configuration file now contains
1289            an external accounting method example which should
1290            work with all DSC compliant Postscript files.
1291
1292        - Some small bugs were fixed.
1293
[998]1294    - 1.08alpha2 :
1295
1296        - Now works with net-snmp v5.0 and above.
1297          It already worked, but the sample configuration
[1000]1298          file didn't contain appropriate values...
[998]1299
[991]1300    - 1.07 : Release of the Shame !
1301
1302        - The external accounting methods driver was left out of
1303          the CVS tree. Nobody could use it since it wasn't included !
1304
[989]1305    - 1.06 :
1306
1307        - Severe bug fixed : if you had a printer in
1308          power saving state which couldn't answer immediately,
1309          a bug was triggered.
1310          It was caused by a bad copy/paste which
1311          forgot to import a Python module at run time.
1312
[980]1313    - 1.05 :
1314
1315        - External accounters are finally available !
1316          This means that you can plug any page accounting
1317          method you like by setting the appropriate
1318          'accounter' field in /etc/pykota.conf
1319          See the sample conf/pykota.conf.sample to
1320          learn how to do.
1321
1322          NB : Both 'external' and 'stupid' accounting methods
1323               account a job size just before *this* job is
1324               sent to the printer.
1325               The original 'querying' method accounts a job
1326               size just before *the next* job is sent to
1327               the printer.
1328
[976]1329    - 1.05alpha3 :
1330
1331        - A 'stupid' and unreliable accounting method was
1332          implemented to serve as an example on how to
1333          do this sort of things. This method only counts
1334          the 'showpage' statements in the input data.
1335          See sample configuration file for details.
1336          Pluggable accounting methods work, but I advise
1337          you TO NOT USE THIS ONE WHICH IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.
1338          It is not reliable enough to be used.
[978]1339          Use the 'querying' accounting method instead.
[976]1340
[973]1341    - 1.05alpha2 :
1342
1343        - Pluggable accounting methods.
1344
[975]1345        - Better error handling.
1346
[962]1347    - 1.05alpha1 :
1348
[969]1349        - SECURITY file added to help improve PyKota's security.
1350
[962]1351        - Extracting the printer's internal page counter is now
1352          tried several times, waiting several seconds between
1353          two tries. This lets the time to warm up for some printers
1354          which don't answer when they are sleeping (my Apple
1355          LaserWriter 16/600 PS is in this case, maybe others too)
1356
[970]1357        - Small display bug fixed in repykota
1358
[960]1359    - 1.04 :
[956]1360
1361        - Default print policy for users/groups unknown from
1362          the print quota system is now DENY instead of ALLOW,
1363          since ALLOW can generate inaccurate results
1364          (incorrect job sizes charged to the wrong persons)
1365
[954]1366        - LPRng support works !
1367
[953]1368        - A bug was introduced some time ago wrt printers' default
1369          policy for unknown users. It is now corrected.
1370
[950]1371        - repykota now displays prices per job and per page for each
1372          printer, if they are defined.
1373
[947]1374        - Minor display bug fixed in repykota.
1375
1376        - Problem when running repykota with an empty database was fixed.
1377
[942]1378    - 1.03 :
1379
1380        - Upgrade script included for earlier versions.
1381          Please look inside the initscripts subdirectory.
[965]1382          THE DATABASE SCHEMA HAS CHANGED, PLEASE UPGRADE.
[942]1383
[932]1384        - repykota now reports account balances too.
[929]1385
[932]1386        - PyKota now has a nice logo, see the logos
1387          subdirectory.
1388
[936]1389        - Manual pages were finally updated.
1390
[927]1391        - Group quotas seem to work now !
1392
[910]1393        - The new database schema allows to keep an history of all
1394          jobs as well as charge users per page and/or per job,
1395          and track users' account balance.
1396
[917]1397        - edpykota now accepts much more command line options to
1398          use the new functionnalities. See edpykota --help for
1399          details.
1400
[885]1401        - The installation script now allows to install the sample
1402          configuration file during first installation.
[892]1403
1404        - More group quota code works, but still not finished.
[885]1405
[894]1406        - The CGI script displays a link to PyKota's website.
1407
[899]1408        - The job history is now kept, this will allow per-period
1409          reports in the future.
[900]1410
1411        - After having modified the quota for an user with edpykota,
1412          a quota check is done to eventually warn the user/admin about
1413          a quota which is too low to print.
1414
[901]1415        - A workaround is provided for HP Printers : their internal
1416          page counter is only saved to NVRAM in a 10 increment, so
1417          if you switch them off and then on, the reported page counter
1418          may be lower than the real number of pages printed.
1419          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[909]1420          We unconditionnally set the last job's page count to
1421          abs(int((10 - abs(lastcounter(snmp) - lastcounter(storage)) / 2))
1422          in this case.
[908]1423          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
1424          off.
[901]1425
1426        - A fix is provided for printers which only have a volatile
1427          page counter (reset to 0 every time you switch the printer on)
[908]1428          This should allow PyKota to work reasonably fine with HP Laserjet
1429          4L/5L/6L, not perfect, but better than nothing.
[901]1430          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[908]1431          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
[925]1432          off. This is untested, please report any problem.
[901]1433
[907]1434        - A bug was fixed when edpykota --add was used with users who already
1435          had a quota on the specified printer.
1436
[913]1437        - A small display bug in repykota was introduced in preliminary
1438          1.03 versions, and fixed later on.
[915]1439
1440        - Some minor bugs which happened in rare situations were fixed.
[913]1441
[919]1442        - Support for AppleTalk printers was added, see sample configuration
1443          file for details.
[925]1444
1445        - Users and group printing can now be controlled (limited) either by
1446          print quota or by account balance.
[919]1447
[877]1448    - 1.02 :
[859]1449
[871]1450        - The installation script now checks for software availability
1451          and in case a software is missing asks the user if he
1452          wants to continue with the installation or abort it.
1453
[872]1454        - The configuration file pykota.conf is now expected to be
1455          found in /etc instead of in /etc/cups
1456          The installation script prompts the user to see if he
1457          wants to move an old configuration file to the new location
1458          if needed.
1459
[859]1460        - Improved documentation.
1461
1462        - You can now set the tcp/ip port on which the Quota Storage
1463          Server is listening, see sample configuration file for details.
1464
[872]1465        - Better general error handling.
[859]1466
[875]1467        - Upgrade script for pre 1.01 PostgreSQL database schema is now
1468          included as well.
1469
[852]1470    - 1.01 :
1471
1472        - The configuration file now accepts an option
1473          to choose the recipient(s) of the email messages :
1474
1475            - DevNull means no one will receive them.
1476            - User means only the user will receive them.
1477            - Admin means only the admin will receive them.
1478            - Both means the User and the Admin will receive them.
1479
[853]1480        - The configuration file now uses hard-coded default values
1481          when an option is not set. See sample configuration file
1482          for details.
1483
[852]1484        - Manual pages are included since 1.00, but I forgot to
1485          add this information to this file.
1486
[855]1487        - Redistribution terms for the official package have
1488          softened and are now fully GPL compatible :
1489          unrestricted modification is now allowed even for
1490          the version number.
1491
[846]1492    - 1.00 :
1493
1494        - edpykota now accepts a --noquota option. This
1495          disable quota checking while still doing page
1496          accounting. This is really useful for people
1497          who don't want to limit their users but want
1498          to know how much pages they print.
1499
1500        - Some untested scripts were added to retrieve
1501          the life time page counter of non-SNMP printers.
1502
1503        - Every directory now has a specific README file.
1504
[833]1505    - 0.99 :
1506
1507        - Under some circumstances while the user wasn't allowed
1508          to print, he didn't receive any email message. It is
1509          now fixed.
1510
1511        - When an user wasn't allowed to print, the quota for
[835]1512          the previous user wasn't updated. This is now fixed.
[833]1513
[827]1514    - 0.98 :
1515
1516        - Correctly handle the case where the printer is switched off.
1517
[828]1518        - Small bug wrt syslog fixed.
1519
[819]1520    - 0.97 :
1521
1522        - edpykota accepts wildcards on its command line for users/groups too
1523          if the --add option is not set, e.g. :
1524
1525              $ edpykota --printer lp --softlimit 50 --hardlimit 100 "jer*"
1526
[821]1527        - If no user name is passed at all, then a default wildcard of "*"
[819]1528          which means apply the command on ALL users for this printer is used.
1529
1530        - Small bug fixes.
1531
[803]1532    - 0.96 :
1533
[808]1534        - Options requester, policy, admin, adminmail and gracedelay can now
[807]1535          be set either globally or per printer. The printer option has
1536          priority if both are defined.
[803]1537
[807]1538        - More powerful configuration parser.
1539
1540        - If all options are defined globally, there's no need to
1541          define a section for each printer in the configuration
1542          file anymore. Just define a [global] section and it's ok.
[803]1543
[797]1544    - 0.95 :
1545
[798]1546        - External requesters for printers finally added.
[797]1547
1548        - Full internationalization (english and french are supported)
1549
1550        - More complete quota usage report
1551
1552        - CGI script to access to the quota usage report
1553
1554        - Several bugs fixed.
1555
1556
1557    - 0.9 :
1558
1559        - First public version
