[1757]61    - 1.20alpha18 :
62
[1758]63        - Experimental autopykota command to initialize user
64          account and quota entries on first print while not
65          resetting the balance value if not needed.
66
[1757]67        - Added the new "winbind_separator" directive to strip
68          out the Samba/Winbind domain name while printing if
69          needed (Off by default).
70

83
[1742]84    - 1.20alpha15 :
85
86        - LDAP pykotaAccountBalance objects were always created
87          attached to the pykotaUser objects. This is now
88          fixed and the value of balancebase in pykota.conf
89          is now correctly used.
90
[1740]91    - 1.20alpha14 :
92
[1741]93        - Belgian translations added (copy of the french ones).
94
[1740]95        - External hardware accounter now loops until
96          a result can be read correctly.

98        - pkhint now suggest the internal snmp handling instead
99          of the external one.
100
[1729]101    - 1.20alpha13 :
102
103        - Hardware accounter now accepts the special
104          'snmp' value, meaning ALL is done from main code
105          without launching any subprocess.
106          You need the http://pysnmp.sf.net Python module
107          for this to work (tested with v3.4.2)
108
[1731]109        - Increased delay between two loops iterations
110          to 2 seconds in waitprinter.sh to diminish
111          CPU load.
112
[1723]113    - 1.20alpha12 :
114
115        - waitprinter.sh rewritten from scratch to wait
116          for printer status stabilization.
117
[1717]118    - 1.20alpha11 :
119
120        - Generic data dumper 'dumpykota' introduced.
121          Works only with PostgreSQL backend for now.

135          supported.
136
[1699]137    - 1.20alpha7 :
138
139        - First draft of PCL3GUI (Deskjet 640C for example) analyzer.
140          Needs more work, but no documentation is available.
141
[1692]142    - 1.20alpha6 :
143
[1697]144        - Improved mailandpopup.sh script.
145
[1696]146        - Small fixes for LPRng.
[1695]147
[1694]148        - Now exports PYKOTAPRINTERHOSTNAME for network printers'
149          hostname or IP address. Set to 'localhost' when not
150          meaningful.
151
[1693]152        - Fixed issue with how mod_auth_ldap Apache modules
153          fills the REMOTE_USER environment variable.
154
[1692]155        - Fixed a bug in LDAP user deletion code.
156
[1687]157    - 1.20alpha5 :
158
159        - Introduces the new configuration directive 'onaccountererror'
160          to specify what must be done whenever the software or
161          hardware accounter fails. Allowed values are 'continue' and
162          'stop' (default).
163
164        - Minor fix in software accounter for a recently introduced
165          problem.
166
[1686]167    - 1.20alpha4 :
168
169        - Added support for more ghostscript devices in ESC/P2
170          analyzer : stcolor, st800, escp, escpc are now supported.
171
[1680]172    - 1.20alpha3 :
173
[1683]174        - Small improvement in PostScript parser to avoid being
175          fooled by a change in number of copies :
176          The user can't ask for 200 copies of page 1 and 1 copy
177          of page 2 to fool PyKota anymore :
178          this would have been accounted for as 1 copy only, but
179          now the maximum value seen is used.
180
[1681]181        - Relax checks for PCL5 header to accomodate some strange
182          printer drivers.
183
[1680]184        - Now hardware accounting method works like software
185          accounting method wrt the subprocess' output.
186
[1681]187        - Hardware and Software accounting stop the print queue
188          when the accounting subprocess didn't work. This will
189          be configurable in the near future.
190
[1676]191    - 1.20alpha2 :
192
[1678]193        - Now software accounting method reads accounter's
194          answer until a line with a single integer is
195          obtained or until all of its output has been read.
196          This should fix the problem some people have
197          when strange locale related messages are sent
198          when running subprocesses (Solaris only ?).
199
[1676]200        - First version of ESC/P2 analyzer. Seems to work
201          ok at least with 'epson', 'epsonc', 'eps9mid'
202          and 'esp9high' ghostscript devices. Needs more
203          work to correctly analyze other devices.
204
[1665]205    - 1.20alpha1 :
206
[1675]207        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCLXL parser.
208
[1674]209        - Fixed problem with number of copies in PCL5 parser,
210          when number of copies was set outside of and before first
211          page.
212
[1673]213        - Added workaround for number of copies directly set in
214          PostScript code.
215
[1671]216        - Added german translation.
217
[1665]218        - Fixed problem on first print for user group quota when
219          "enforcement: strict" is used.
220
221        - Fixed interpolation problem in french translation.
222
[1664]223    - 1.19 :
224
225        - Updated existing translations.
226
227        - Added final Thai and Greek translations.
228
229        - Minor last minute bug fixes.
230
[1629]231    - 1.19beta :
232
233        - LPRng support for both software and hardware accounting seems
234          to be OK.
235
236        - Translation files fixed because of fuzzy matching problem.
237
[1639]238        - Fixed path to Swedish translation: 'sv' instead of 'se'.
[1633]239
[1639]240        - Added first draft of Thai translation.
241
242        - Fixed some minor bugs with Pychecker.
243
[1622]244    - 1.19alpha35 :
245
246        - Generic PDL analyzer now supports Binary PostScript documents
247          in addition to DSC compliant ones.
248
[1611]249    - 1.19alpha34 :
250
251        - LPRng support : software accounting seems to work fine,
252          but hardware accounting doesn't work yet.
253
[1605]254    - 1.19alpha33 :
255
256        - pykosd now accepts command line arguments. Enjoy !
257          NB : due to a bug in xosd, you need xosd version 2.2.8
258          or higher if you don't use the default C locale.
259
[1600]260    - 1.19alpha32 :
261
[1604]262        - Early (not working) version of the LPRng support rewrite.
[1600]263
[1604]264        - Saner default configuration file.
265
[1599]266    - 1.19alpha31 :
267
268        - Fixed a double Python2.1 incompatibility with newer versions,
269          which prevented the PCL5 and the PCLXL parsers to work with
270          this older version of Python.
271
[1592]272    - 1.19alpha30 :
273
[1595]274        - Introduction of preliminary version of the pykosd command
275
[1593]276        - Usernames, Groupnames and Printernames can now contain
277          ANY character, expected '/' and '@'.
278
[1592]279        - Integrated most of the Debian work from Sergio
280          Gonzz Gonzz
281
[1584]282    - 1.19alpha29 :
283
[1591]284        - PCLXL parser should now correctly handle number of
285          copies set for each page.
286
[1588]287        - Added testsuite for generic PDL analyzer.
288
289        - Typo fixed in PCLXL parser.
290
[1584]291        - Correctly dispatches error messages depending on the
292          situation : tools which can be run interactively will
293          ALWAYS output their logs to stderr, excepted for
294          their DEBUG messages, for which the "logger:"
295          directive as set in pykota.conf will be honored.
296          Tools which can't be run interactively will ALWAYS
297          honor the "logger:" directive as set in pykota.conf
298
[1575]299    - 1.19alpha28 :
300
[1582]301        - The description field for printers can now be set,
302          and is displayed in reports.
303
304        - Fixed a small problem in SQL backend code.
305
[1578]306        - Improved pkhint
307
[1575]308        - First working PCL6 (aka PCLXL) parser !
309          Doesn't handle copies yet.
310
[1570]311    - 1.19alpha27 :
312
[1573]313        - Additionnal 10% speed increase in PCL5 parser for GhostScript
314          generated files (untested yet with other PCL files).
315
[1572]316        - Reintroduced the use of mmap in PCL5 parser : this speedups
317          PCL5 parsing by almost 4 times.
318          This 4x with the 3x below give us in fact a twelvefold increase
319          in performance for PCL5 parsing !
320
[1570]321        - The Python accelerator Psyco is now used if available
322          in the generic PDL parser : it speedups PCL5 parsing by
[1572]323          almost three times automagically.
[1570]324
[1564]325    - 1.19alpha26 :
326
327        - Fixed PCL5 parser according to the sources of rastertohp.
328
[1566]329        - Fixed number of copies handling in PCL5 parser : the number
330          of copies could vary from page to page.
[1568]331
332        - Added more debug information to PCLXL parser.
[1566]333
[1556]334    - 1.19alpha25 :
335
[1558]336        - Added new "description" field to printers in both
[1556]337          PostgreSQL and LDAP. No code to handle this yet.
338
[1558]339        - Reversed the fix for power save mode in printers :
[1557]340          no paper or tray open would have caused people to
341          be undercharged.
342
[1558]343        - Preliminary version of MySQL initialization script.
344
[1552]345    - 1.19alpha24 :
346
347        - Native PDF parsing code now works perfectly with
348          Python 2.1 and above, and is way faster than before.
349          GhostScript is not used anymore to convert PDF to PS,
350          because PDF is parsed directly.
351
[1545]352    - 1.19alpha23 :
353
[1549]354        - Fixed waitprinter.sh wrt PowerSave mode and some
355          printers. Thanks to Ryan Suarez.
356
[1550]357        - Smart PDL analyzer now recognizes PDF too : two
358          PDF parsing methods are used : a native one which
359          is very fast but requires Python 2.3 or above, and
360          a slower one which uses Ghostscript. PyKota detects
361          automatically which method to use depending on your
362          version of Python.
[1547]363
[1546]364        - All tracebacks now include PyKota's version number.
[1545]365
[1542]366    - 1.19alpha22 :
367
[1544]368        - Ensures that the file pointer for job's data is
369          reset to the start of the job's datas after the
370          job's size pre-computation phase.
371
[1543]372        - Improved PostScript detection code for bad drivers
373          which don't correctly switch languages between PJL
374          and PS.
375
[1542]376        - Even better debugging code.
377
[1541]378    - 1.19alpha21 :
379
[1542]380        - Additionnal check.
[1541]381
[1536]382    - 1.19alpha20 :
383
384        - More complete logging messages wrt accounters.
385
[1539]386        - Now catches early failures occuring when the configuration
387          files are parsed.
388
[1526]389    - 1.19alpha19 :
390
391        - Fixed over-verbose exits when displaying help
392          or version.
[1527]393
394        - Extended some PATH in the shell scripts
[1532]395
396        - Deleting an user now also deletes his payments history.
397
398        - Doesn't explicitely ignore SIGCHLD anymore. This seems to
399          cause problems.
[1500]400
[1522]401    - 1.19alpha18 :
402
403        - History of payments is now stored in the database, and
404          updated each time an user's balance is modified with
405          edpykota --balance. This history represents each time
406          the user was given some positive or negative credit,
407          but doesn't reflect price paid for jobs, which appear
408          in the jobs history instead.
409
[1524]410        - Jobs history web reports now include the job's size in
411          bytes. Also columns were reordered to render the report
412          more easily readable.
413
[1517]414    - 1.19alpha17 :
415
416        - Mysterious bug (program exited unexpectedly without leaving
417          any log message) which occured once in a while when
418          cancelling jobs should be fixed now.
419
420        - New 'crashrecipient' directive. Disabled by
421          default. See sample configuration file to see how
422          to activate it. It is suggested that you activate it.
423
424        - New PYKOTAJOBSIZEBYTES environment variable exported,
[1519]425          which contains the job's size in bytes. Empty jobs
[1521]426          are now denied. This value is now stored in the job
427          history (but not yet displayed from the web interface)
[1517]428
[1521]429        - Preliminary work on payments storage : the PostgreSQL
430          and LDAP schemas should be OK now, but no code is written
431          yet to support this functionnality.
432
[1502]433    - 1.19alpha16 :
434
[1510]435        - the newuser and newgroup LDAP specific directives now accept
436          a second parameter to attach(), "fail" or "warn". If no entry
437          is found to attach PyKota attributes to, and "fail" was used,
438          then action is aborted and program exits in error. If "warn"
439          is used, a new entry is created but a warning message is logged.
440
[1502]441        - The job's originating hostname is now stored in the database,
442          and exported as PYKOTAJOBORIGINATINGHOSTNAME in the environment.
443
[1500]444    - 1.19alpha15 :
445
446        - The old pykota filter is now removed. This means that
447          currently PyKota doesn't support LPRng anymore, but
448          LPRng support will be re-added, improved, in the near future.
449
[1495]450    - 1.19alpha14 :
451
[1499]452        - PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBSIZE and PYKOTAPRECOMPUTEDJOBPRICE
453          are now exported as environment variables.
454
[1498]455        - Heavy CPU usage is now completely fixed it seems, by
456          introducing some 0.01 second sleeping when nothing to do.
457
[1497]458        - Pre-computation of the job's size is now only
459          done when enforcement is "STRICT", this saves
460          CPU for people who don't want to use this new
461          feature.
462
[1495]463        - New 'enforcement' directive which accepts either
464          STRICT or LAXIST. See sample configuration file
465          for details.
466
[1494]467    - 1.19alpha13 :
468
469        - Get back to an old version of the polling loop which
470          worked fine, but non-optimally. Will be optimized
471          as time permits.
472
[1492]473    - 1.19alpha12 :
474
475        - Job's size is now precomputed unconditionnally using
476          the generic PDL analyzer.
477          NB : This value is not yet used to pre-allow/deny the
478          job.
479
[1490]480    - 1.19alpha11 :
481
482        - The pykota filter is now completely deprecated and
483          can't be used anymore. LPRng users MUST download
484          an older version of PyKota. CUPS users MUST use
485          cupspykota. Better support for LPRng will come
486          in the near future.
487
[1483]488    - 1.19alpha10 :
489
[1488]490        - pykotme now uses generic PDL Analyzer directly instead
491          of spawning a new process.
492
[1487]493        - Improvements to generic PDL Analyzer.
494
[1485]495        - 25% Speedup in PCL parser. Getting more of the Python version
496          will probably be difficult, since the completely table driven
497          parser I wrote is slower than the original algorithm. Then,
498          the original algorithm is still used for now.
499          Probable that more speed could be achieved using mmap, at the
500          expense of severe memory consumption.
501
[1483]502        - configuration simplifications : the "accounter" directive's
503          'hardware' arguments now accepts what was in the "requester"
504          directive as it's content. The "requester" directive is not
505          supported anymore. See sample configuration file for details.
506
[1478]507    - 1.19alpha9 :
508
[1482]509        - pkpgcounter is now just a wrapper around the PDLAnalyzer class
510
[1480]511        - pykotaOptions LDAP attribute now accepts non-ascii characters
512          too.
513
[1478]514        - First try at cupspykota main loop rewrite
515
[1475]516    - 1.19alpha8 :
517
518        - 'querying' accounting method is now called 'hardware'
519
520        - 'external' accounting method is now called 'software'
521
522        - 'stupid' accounting method doesn't exist anymore
523
524        - 'snmp' requester doesn't exist anymore
525
526        - code simplifications in external requester
527
[1473]528    - 1.19alpha7 :
529
530        - Database schema change (both LDAP and PostgreSQL) to
531          allow storage of the job-originating-hostname attribute.
532          An SQL upgrade script is present. The code is not yet
533          capable of setting/retrieving this attribute. Support
534          for this functionnality will be added in the future.
535
[1463]536    - 1.19alpha6 :
537
[1471]538        - problems connecting to SMTP servers are now catched.
539
[1463]540        - pykotme now uses pkpgcounter to compute the size of the
541          job. This modification adds PCL5 and soon PCLXL (PCL6)
542          support. You can now get quotes for PCL in addition to
543          PostScript.
544
[1464]545        - pkpgcounter now includes first try at PCLXL parser.
546          It is currently disabled until it's finished.
547
[1451]548    - 1.19alpha5 :
549
[1458]550        - cupspykota polling loop fix for MacOSX (at least)
551
[1459]552        - logging subsystem now logs PID too, to ease diagnosing
553          problems under heavy load.
554
[1456]555        - pkpgcounter enhancements.
556
[1453]557        - pkprinters --skipexisting now tells pkprinters to not
558          modify existing printers when --add is used.
559          pkprinters logs a warning message whenever --add is
560          used and a printer already exists.
[1451]561
[1455]562        - LDAP schema now allows accented chars in pykotaFileName
563          and pykotaTitle attributes.
564
[1447]565    - 1.19alpha4 :
566
567        - a bad copy&paste prevented pkpgcounter to work at all, this
568          is now fixed.
569
[1451]570        - improved PCL support in pkpgcounter, with the use of
571          HP PCL/PJL Reference Set
572          PCL5 Printer Language Technical Quick Reference Guide
[1449]573
574        - pkpgcounter now uses mmap to speed things up : duration
[1450]575          is halved with the sample 87 pages PCL document I use for
576          testing.
[1448]577
[1437]578    - 1.19alpha3 :
579
580        - pkprinters now accepts the --list command line argument
581          to list informations about printers.
582
[1430]583    - 1.19alpha2 :
584
585        - pkpgcounter is now included as a smart external
586          accounter which can handle both PostScript and PCL.
587
[1417]588    - 1.19alpha1 :
589
[1421]590        - PYKOTALIMITBY environment variable is now exported too.

609
610        - Improved documentation
611
[1396]612    - 1.18alpha15 :
[1398]613
614        - waitprinter.sh replaced by a new and possibly faster
[1404]615          and more powerful one.
[1396]616
617        - Names can now begin with a digit.
618
[1398]619        - Stability improvement for quotas set on printers groups.
[1396]620
[1381]621    - 1.18alpha14 :

624          of breaking.
625
[1381]626        - Italian translation added.
627
[1376]628    - 1.18alpha13 :
629
630        - Pre and Post hooks are now available in the pykota
631          filter as well.
632
633        - The pykota filter doesn't check last user's quota
[1377]634          anymore when delayed hardware accounting is used :
635          this will be done anyway the next time the last
636          user will print again. This saves some database
637          queries which are unneeded.
[1376]638
[1372]639    - 1.18alpha12 :
640
[1376]641        - Pre and Post hooks to external commands with many
[1372]642          many environment variables available are useable
643          from the cupspykota backend.
644          See sample configuration file for details and help.

691
[1345]692        - Applied some of the modifications suggested by
693          Peter Hawkins, for better Debian integration.
694          Most notably cupspykota, pykota, and the shell
695          scripts are now installed into /usr/share/pykota
696          instead of into /usr/bin
697          BEWARE : double check that your symbolic link

869
[1215]870        - If username is an empty string, user root is assumed.
[1220]871
872        - 'postgresql' is not recognized anymore as a storage backend,
873          you have to use 'pgstorage' instead. 'postgresql' used to
874          be supported for compatibility with very old PyKota versions,
875          this is not the case anymore.
[1212]876
[1203]877    - 1.16alpha12 :
878
879        - Job price added to job history, to keep accounting correct
880          if a printer price per page or per job is modified and the
881          history is not reset : the history would have given a false
882          amount of money charged before the printer's prices were
883          modified, this addition solves the problem.
884
[1200]885    - 1.16alpha11 :

920
921        - From now on, the use of the pykota filter with CUPS
922          is deprecated. The pykota filter still has to be
923          used with LPRng though.
924
[1179]925    - 1.16alpha6 :
926
927        - Bug fixed : when edpykota was used to add a printer
928          with no user or group name, a bad user/group name "*" was
929          added to the database.
930
[1178]931    - 1.16alpha5 :
932
933        - New CUPS backend supports device enumeration !
934          This means that NO manual CUPS configuration has to
935          be done. All can now be done from CUPS web interface.
936
[1177]937    - 1.16alpha4 :
938
939        - New CUPS backend added.
940
[1175]941    - 1.16alpha3 :
942
943        - Minimal FAQ document added.
944
[1172]945    - 1.16alpha2 :
946
947        - CGI script now partially supports browser's language preference
948
[1170]949    - 1.16alpha1 :
950
951        - Ensures that the LDAP connection is really closed at end.
952
953        - More complete error messages in case of LDAP operation failure.
954
[1168]955    - 1.15 :
956
957        - Documentation improved.
958
[1156]959    - 1.15beta :
960
961        - Command line tools now accept multiple printer
962          names or wildcards, separated with commas.
963
[1152]964    - 1.15alpha9 :
965
966        - External policy can be used to auto-add unknown users
967          and any other interesting things you may want to do.
968          WARNING : You can't auto-add printers for now.
969          They have to be created manually before.
970          Look at sample configuration file for examples.
971
[1149]972    - 1.15alpha8 :
973
974        - Job history can be disabled if needed.
975          This feature may be useful for people who use the LDAP
976          backend and don't want their LDAP tree to grow out of
977          control.
978
[1138]979    - 1.15alpha7 :
980
981        - More work done on caching wrt groups.
982
[1135]983    - 1.15alpha6 :
984
985        - Performance bottleneck with LDAP solved.
986

990
[1123]991    - 1.15alpha4 :
992
993        - Problem with Python 2.3 fixed. Needs some definitive
994          modification.
995
[1121]996    - 1.15alpha3 :
997
998        - CGI script now tries to restrict view when the
999          REMOTE_USER environment variable is set. This allows
1000          people to protect its use with .htaccess files.
1001          When unprotected, or if REMOTE_USER is 'root', then
1002          unrestricted access is granted.
[1122]1003          NB : REMOTE_USER is automatically set by the web server
1004          (e.g. Apache) when a page with restricted access is viewed.
[1121]1005
[1116]1006    - 1.15alpha2 :
1007
1008        - Better detection of LPRng.
1009
1010        - Outputs a warning if printing system is unknown.
1011
[1115]1012    - 1.15alpha1 :
1013
1014        - Bug fix in SQL code.
1015
[1113]1016    - 1.14 :
1017
1018        - The PostgreSQL database connection is now always closed before
1019          exit. The LDAP database connection too, but it didn't suffer
1020          from the problem anyway, AFAICT.
1021
[1111]1022    - 1.14beta2 :
1023
1024        - An LDAP-specific configuration field was introduced, usermail.
1025          Use it to specify which LDAP attribute contains a valid email
1026          address for the user. See sample configuration file for
1027          details.
1028
[1105]1029    - 1.14beta :
1030
1031        - Two new LDAP-specific configuration fields were introduced,
1032          newuser and newgroup. Use them to specify if you want to add
1033          quota information to existing entries or elsewhere.
1034          See sample configuration file for details.
1035
[1099]1036    - 1.14alpha9 :
1037
1038        - Documentation improved.
1039
1040        - pykotme now also prints the user's account balance value
1041          if the user is registered in the Quota Storage and his
1042          limiting factor is "balance".
1043
[1095]1044    - 1.14alpha8 :
1045
1046        - bin/waitprinter.sh is now included to wait for
1047          SNMP enabled printers to be idle again before
1048          asking for their internal page counter.
1049          See sample configuration file for details.
1050
[1089]1051    - 1.14alpha7 :
1052
1053        - edpykota now doesn't check if the user/group is above
1054          quota. The check is only done at print time. This
1055          prevents the sending of email messages when creating
1056          user quotas if quota is already reached at creation
1057          time.
1058
[1087]1059    - 1.14alpha6 :
1060
1061        - Configuration file split and moved to /etc/pykota/pykota.conf
1062          and /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf to prevent simple users to
1063          have Read/Write access to the Quota Database.
1064          Don't forget to :
1065
1066                $ chmod 640 /etc/pykota/pykotadmin.conf
1067
1068        - storageuser and storageuserpw configuration fields reintroduced
1069          for the same reason.
1070
1071        - Code cleaning for future implementation of email addresses
1072          support in the PostgreSQL and LDAP backends.
1073
[1085]1074    - 1.14alpha5 :
1075
1076        - Big bug fixed when changing the prices for a printer
1077
[1082]1078    - 1.14alpha4 :
1079
1080        - When adding an user, the user itself and its account balance
1081          are now added in the same LDAP entry. Before they were added
1082          as two different LDAP entries.
1083
[1079]1084    - 1.14alpha3 :
1085
1086        - Email field added to PostgreSQL database. An upgrade script
1087          is included in initscripts/postgresql.
1088
[1078]1089    - 1.14alpha2 :
1090
1091        - Typo fixed when using the --prototype option to edpykota
1092
[1077]1093    - 1.14alpha1 :
1094
1095        - Poor man's treshold included : users with a low account
1096          balance (below 1.0 by default, configurable) are sent
1097          a warning message.
1098
1099        - All warning messages to users are now configurable.
1100          NB : Warning messages to the administrator are not.
1101
[1068]1102    - 1.13 :
1103
[1072]1104        - Some small fixes wrt group handling.
1105
[1068]1106        - The whole module code was passed through PyChecker and
1107          several small code inconsistencies were fixed,
1108          as well as a bug in the groups code.
1109
[1067]1110    - 1.13alpha1 :
1111
1112        - Bug fix wrt LDAP.
1113
[1065]1114    - 1.12 :
1115
1116        - More complete test added in edpykota.
1117
[1062]1118    - 1.12alpha2 :
1119
1120        - The previous bug fix was incomplete. This is corrected.
1121
[1061]1122    - 1.12alpha1 :
1123
1124        - Small bug fix.
1125
[1057]1126    - 1.11 :
1127
1128        - Now includes the pykotme command line tool, to produce
1129          printing quotes for users.
1130
[1056]1131    - 1.10 :
1132
1133        - Bug fixed wrt quota reports when print limiting is by
1134          account balance.
1135
[1052]1136    - 1.09 :
1137
1138        - Translations finalized.
1139
1140        - Manpages updated.
1141
1142        - Installation documentation improved wrt LDAP support.
1143
[1049]1144    - 1.09beta2 :
1145
1146        - The CGI script for quota reports works again, and
1147          is much more powerful.
1148
[1043]1149    - 1.09beta :
1150
1151        - edpykota finalized
1152
[1041]1153    - 1.09alpha2 :
1154
1155        - LDAP schema modified a bit. Please upgrade.
1156
1157        - LDAP backend works !
1158
1159        - repykota and warnpykota allow the root user to pass
1160          users or groups names on the command line. Users
1161          and groups names may contain wildcards.
1162
1163        - repykota and warnpykota only reports or warns the
1164          current user when launched by non-root users.
1165
1166        - Minor bug fixes.
1167
[1029]1168    - 1.09alpha1 :
1169
1170        - More work on LDAP storage backend. Many options
1171          were added to /etc/pykota.conf to give some
1172          hints to the LDAP storage backend.
[1044]1173
1174        - Severe database access optimizations were done by
1175          rewriting most of the Quota Storage backends drivers.
[1029]1176
[1027]1177    - 1.08 :
1178
1179        - Major bug fix wrt LPRng support for remote jobs.
[1029]1180
[1027]1181        - Major bug fix wrt increase/decrease account balances.
1182
[1021]1183    - 1.08alpha8 :
1184
1185        - Code refactoring.
[1029]1186
[1021]1187        - A single user/password pair is used to connect
1188          to the database backend. The storageuser configuration
1189          field, and its associated passwords storageuserpw, are
1190          not used anymore.
[1029]1191
[1022]1192        - You can now set PyKota in debug mode, see sample configuration
1193          file for details.
1194          WARNING : only Quota Storage backend queries are logged in
1195          debug mode, for now.
[1021]1196
[1019]1197    - 1.08alpha7 :
1198
1199        - Very latest LDAP schema.
[1029]1200
[1019]1201        - Code enhancement wrt easy pluggability of PyKota attributes
1202          and object classes into an existing LDAP directory.
1203
[1017]1204    - 1.08alpha6 :
1205
1206        - Minor bug corrections
[1029]1207
[1017]1208        - More work on LDAP : new schema
1209
[1016]1210    - 1.08alpha5 :
1211
[1017]1212        - More good work on LDAP storage.
1213          repykota now works reasonably well with the sample LDAP directory.
[1016]1214
[1014]1215    - 1.08alpha4 :
1216
1217        - LDAP schema included.
1218          THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT THIS.
1219          LDAP SUPPORT DOESN'T WORK YET, AND THE SCHEMA
1220          MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE TELL US
1221          WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS SCHEMA ON THE
1222          MAILING LIST.
1223
[1000]1224    - 1.08alpha3 :
1225
1226        - External accounting methods were partly rewritten :
1227
1228          - No more "broken pipe" should happen.
1229
1230          - They now take care of the number of copies
1231            This may be unneeded though, if the postscript
1232            file already does this, because this would
1233            overcharge users (number of copies counted
1234            two times). NEEDS MORE TESTING.
1235
1236          - The sample configuration file now contains
1237            an external accounting method example which should
1238            work with all DSC compliant Postscript files.
1239
1240        - Some small bugs were fixed.
1241
[998]1242    - 1.08alpha2 :
1243
1244        - Now works with net-snmp v5.0 and above.
1245          It already worked, but the sample configuration
[1000]1246          file didn't contain appropriate values...
[998]1247
[991]1248    - 1.07 : Release of the Shame !
1249
1250        - The external accounting methods driver was left out of
1251          the CVS tree. Nobody could use it since it wasn't included !
1252
[989]1253    - 1.06 :
1254
1255        - Severe bug fixed : if you had a printer in
1256          power saving state which couldn't answer immediately,
1257          a bug was triggered.
1258          It was caused by a bad copy/paste which
1259          forgot to import a Python module at run time.
1260
[980]1261    - 1.05 :
1262
1263        - External accounters are finally available !
1264          This means that you can plug any page accounting
1265          method you like by setting the appropriate
1266          'accounter' field in /etc/pykota.conf
1267          See the sample conf/pykota.conf.sample to
1268          learn how to do.
1269
1270          NB : Both 'external' and 'stupid' accounting methods
1271               account a job size just before *this* job is
1272               sent to the printer.
1273               The original 'querying' method accounts a job
1274               size just before *the next* job is sent to
1275               the printer.
1276
[976]1277    - 1.05alpha3 :
1278
1279        - A 'stupid' and unreliable accounting method was
1280          implemented to serve as an example on how to
1281          do this sort of things. This method only counts
1282          the 'showpage' statements in the input data.
1283          See sample configuration file for details.
1284          Pluggable accounting methods work, but I advise
1285          you TO NOT USE THIS ONE WHICH IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.
1286          It is not reliable enough to be used.
[978]1287          Use the 'querying' accounting method instead.
[976]1288
[973]1289    - 1.05alpha2 :
1290
1291        - Pluggable accounting methods.
1292
[975]1293        - Better error handling.
1294
[962]1295    - 1.05alpha1 :
1296
[969]1297        - SECURITY file added to help improve PyKota's security.
1298
[962]1299        - Extracting the printer's internal page counter is now
1300          tried several times, waiting several seconds between
1301          two tries. This lets the time to warm up for some printers
1302          which don't answer when they are sleeping (my Apple
1303          LaserWriter 16/600 PS is in this case, maybe others too)
1304
[970]1305        - Small display bug fixed in repykota
1306
[960]1307    - 1.04 :
[956]1308
1309        - Default print policy for users/groups unknown from
1310          the print quota system is now DENY instead of ALLOW,
1311          since ALLOW can generate inaccurate results
1312          (incorrect job sizes charged to the wrong persons)
1313
[954]1314        - LPRng support works !
1315
[953]1316        - A bug was introduced some time ago wrt printers' default
1317          policy for unknown users. It is now corrected.
1318
[950]1319        - repykota now displays prices per job and per page for each
1320          printer, if they are defined.
1321
[947]1322        - Minor display bug fixed in repykota.
1323
1324        - Problem when running repykota with an empty database was fixed.
1325
[942]1326    - 1.03 :
1327
1328        - Upgrade script included for earlier versions.
1329          Please look inside the initscripts subdirectory.
[965]1330          THE DATABASE SCHEMA HAS CHANGED, PLEASE UPGRADE.
[942]1331
[932]1332        - repykota now reports account balances too.
[929]1333
[932]1334        - PyKota now has a nice logo, see the logos
1335          subdirectory.
1336
[936]1337        - Manual pages were finally updated.
1338
[927]1339        - Group quotas seem to work now !
1340
[910]1341        - The new database schema allows to keep an history of all
1342          jobs as well as charge users per page and/or per job,
1343          and track users' account balance.
1344
[917]1345        - edpykota now accepts much more command line options to
1346          use the new functionnalities. See edpykota --help for
1347          details.
1348
[885]1349        - The installation script now allows to install the sample
1350          configuration file during first installation.
[892]1351
1352        - More group quota code works, but still not finished.
[885]1353
[894]1354        - The CGI script displays a link to PyKota's website.
1355
[899]1356        - The job history is now kept, this will allow per-period
1357          reports in the future.
[900]1358
1359        - After having modified the quota for an user with edpykota,
1360          a quota check is done to eventually warn the user/admin about
1361          a quota which is too low to print.
1362
[901]1363        - A workaround is provided for HP Printers : their internal
1364          page counter is only saved to NVRAM in a 10 increment, so
1365          if you switch them off and then on, the reported page counter
1366          may be lower than the real number of pages printed.
1367          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[909]1368          We unconditionnally set the last job's page count to
1369          abs(int((10 - abs(lastcounter(snmp) - lastcounter(storage)) / 2))
1370          in this case.
[908]1371          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
1372          off.
[901]1373
1374        - A fix is provided for printers which only have a volatile
1375          page counter (reset to 0 every time you switch the printer on)
[908]1376          This should allow PyKota to work reasonably fine with HP Laserjet
1377          4L/5L/6L, not perfect, but better than nothing.
[901]1378          See http://web.mit.edu/source/third/lprng/doc/LPRng-HOWTO-15.html
[908]1379          For a more accurate accounting, never switch your HP printers
[925]1380          off. This is untested, please report any problem.
[901]1381
[907]1382        - A bug was fixed when edpykota --add was used with users who already
1383          had a quota on the specified printer.
1384
[913]1385        - A small display bug in repykota was introduced in preliminary
1386          1.03 versions, and fixed later on.
[915]1387
1388        - Some minor bugs which happened in rare situations were fixed.
[913]1389
[919]1390        - Support for AppleTalk printers was added, see sample configuration
1391          file for details.
[925]1392
1393        - Users and group printing can now be controlled (limited) either by
1394          print quota or by account balance.
[919]1395
[877]1396    - 1.02 :
[859]1397
[871]1398        - The installation script now checks for software availability
1399          and in case a software is missing asks the user if he
1400          wants to continue with the installation or abort it.
1401
[872]1402        - The configuration file pykota.conf is now expected to be
1403          found in /etc instead of in /etc/cups
1404          The installation script prompts the user to see if he
1405          wants to move an old configuration file to the new location
1406          if needed.
1407
[859]1408        - Improved documentation.
1409
1410        - You can now set the tcp/ip port on which the Quota Storage
1411          Server is listening, see sample configuration file for details.
1412
[872]1413        - Better general error handling.
[859]1414
[875]1415        - Upgrade script for pre 1.01 PostgreSQL database schema is now
1416          included as well.
1417
[852]1418    - 1.01 :
1419
1420        - The configuration file now accepts an option
1421          to choose the recipient(s) of the email messages :
1422
1423            - DevNull means no one will receive them.
1424            - User means only the user will receive them.
1425            - Admin means only the admin will receive them.
1426            - Both means the User and the Admin will receive them.
1427
[853]1428        - The configuration file now uses hard-coded default values
1429          when an option is not set. See sample configuration file
1430          for details.
1431
[852]1432        - Manual pages are included since 1.00, but I forgot to
1433          add this information to this file.
1434
[855]1435        - Redistribution terms for the official package have
1436          softened and are now fully GPL compatible :
1437          unrestricted modification is now allowed even for
1438          the version number.
1439
[846]1440    - 1.00 :
1441
1442        - edpykota now accepts a --noquota option. This
1443          disable quota checking while still doing page
1444          accounting. This is really useful for people
1445          who don't want to limit their users but want
1446          to know how much pages they print.
1447
1448        - Some untested scripts were added to retrieve
1449          the life time page counter of non-SNMP printers.
1450
1451        - Every directory now has a specific README file.
1452
[833]1453    - 0.99 :
1454
1455        - Under some circumstances while the user wasn't allowed
1456          to print, he didn't receive any email message. It is
1457          now fixed.
1458
1459        - When an user wasn't allowed to print, the quota for
[835]1460          the previous user wasn't updated. This is now fixed.
[833]1461
[827]1462    - 0.98 :
1463
1464        - Correctly handle the case where the printer is switched off.
1465
[828]1466        - Small bug wrt syslog fixed.
1467
[819]1468    - 0.97 :
1469
1470        - edpykota accepts wildcards on its command line for users/groups too
1471          if the --add option is not set, e.g. :
1472
1473              $ edpykota --printer lp --softlimit 50 --hardlimit 100 "jer*"
1474
[821]1475        - If no user name is passed at all, then a default wildcard of "*"
[819]1476          which means apply the command on ALL users for this printer is used.
1477
1478        - Small bug fixes.
1479
[803]1480    - 0.96 :
1481
[808]1482        - Options requester, policy, admin, adminmail and gracedelay can now
[807]1483          be set either globally or per printer. The printer option has
1484          priority if both are defined.
[803]1485
[807]1486        - More powerful configuration parser.
1487
1488        - If all options are defined globally, there's no need to
1489          define a section for each printer in the configuration
1490          file anymore. Just define a [global] section and it's ok.
[803]1491
[797]1492    - 0.95 :
1493
[798]1494        - External requesters for printers finally added.
[797]1495
1496        - Full internationalization (english and french are supported)
1497
1498        - More complete quota usage report
1499
1500        - CGI script to access to the quota usage report
1501
1502        - Several bugs fixed.
1503
1504
1505    - 0.9 :
1506
1507        - First public version
